Long before leadership became identified as the catalyst for corporate success, the Civil War's winning general was showing the world how dynamic leadership is the crucial determinant of victory or defeat.Ulysses S. Grant never sought fame of glory, nor did he try to tie his performance to personal reward. Instead, he concentrated on contribution and service. He looked upon being given increased responsibility not as increasing his power, but as increasing his ability to get the job done. "The great thing about Grant...is his perfect correctness and persistency of purpose." (Abraham Lincoln) In this masterful retelling of Grant's story, Al Kaltman draws on Grant's writings and life experiences to present a series of practical lessons on how to get superior performance from the troops. Going beyond mere "how-to's", Cigars, Whiskey & Winning deals with character traits, core beliefs, and fundamental values to reveal the secrets to becoming a winning leader that are as much about "who to be" as "what to do". And there isn't a chart, table, or checklist in sight-just a handy index of lessons for ready inspiration on demand.

A perfect accompaniment to fine Scotch, the combination makes it a most relaxing pastime. Cigars are appreciated throughout the world for their complex and rich flavour and have been enjoyed since the beginning of the 10th century. We take a look at the long and interesting history of cigars, as well as some tips on how to really smoke a cigar like a pro. Who Invented Cigars? Historians generally believe that the cigar was invented by the ancient Mayans, who would wrap the tobacco in a palm or plantain leaf and smoke it. Archaeologists have even discovered an ancient Mayan jar from the 10th century that depicts a Mayan man blowing on one of these very first cigars. When Christopher Columbus came to the New World, he was one of the first Westerners to discover tobacco. The local Indians showed him how they smoked tobacco leaves and Columbus and his lieutenants quickly adopted the habit. When they brought the idea home, smoking became very popular in Spain and Portugal. The French ambassador to Portugal, Jean Nicot, popularized smoking in France and nicotine is named after him. It was at this time that Spanish manufacturers began to package dried tobacco in paper instead of leaves. After that, many companies started growing tobacco and cigars in mass production. Cuba became a very popular place to grow tobacco plants because of the fertile soil and warm climate. Soon a Cuban tobacco growing industry was created and sailboats distributed the tobacco grown in Cuba from Europe to Asia. Columbus had claimed Cuba for Spain and meanwhile the Spaniards dominated the tobacco industry. They even placed a monopoly on the harvest that lasted until 1817, prohibiting any Cuban grower from selling to anyone but them. Churchill S Cigar written by Stephen McGinty and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-25 with History categories.

During the Second World War, Churchill's cigar was such an important beacon of resistance that MI5, together with the nation's top scientists, tested the Prime Minister's supplies on mice rather than risk sabotage. Today Winston Churchill and his cigar remains a global icon, memorialised by a 107 foot statue of a cigar in Australia, while his cigar stubs are treasured as relics. Using original archival research and exclusive interviews with Churchill's staff, Stephen McGinty, an award-winning journalist, explores Churchill's passion for cigars and the solace they brought. He also examines Churchill’s lasting friendship with Antonio Giraudier, the Cuban businessman who for twenty years stocked Churchill's humidor, before fleeing Castro's revolution.
