I shouldn't have remembered him. He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn't know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all. But I could feel him. The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated. The second time was different. He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed. That was just the beginning. He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name... Cole Mauricio. **Full length stand-alone

NATIONAL BESTSELLER WINNER OF THE 2020 TORONTO BOOK AWARD A bracing, provocative, and perspective-shifting book from one of Canada's most celebrated and uncompromising writers, Desmond Cole. The Skin We're In will spark a national conversation, influence policy, and inspire activists. In his 2015 cover story for Toronto Life magazine, Desmond Cole exposed the racist actions of the Toronto police force, detailing the dozens of times he had been stopped and interrogated under the controversial practice of carding. The story quickly came to national prominence, shaking the country to its core and catapulting its author into the public sphere. Cole used his newfound profile to draw insistent, unyielding attention to the injustices faced by Black Canadians on a daily basis. Both Cole’s activism and journalism find vibrant expression in his first book, The Skin We’re In. Puncturing the bubble of Canadian smugness and naive assumptions of a post-racial nation, Cole chronicles just one year—2017—in the struggle against racism in this country. It was a year that saw calls for tighter borders when Black refugees braved frigid temperatures to cross into Manitoba from the States, Indigenous land and water protectors resisting the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, police across the country rallying around an officer accused of murder, and more. The year also witnessed the profound personal and professional ramifications of Desmond Cole’s unwavering determination to combat injustice. In April, Cole disrupted a Toronto police board meeting by calling for the destruction of all data collected through carding. Following the protest, Cole, a columnist with the Toronto Star, was summoned to a meeting with the paper’s opinions editor and informed that his activism violated company policy. Rather than limit his efforts defending Black lives, Cole chose to sever his relationship with the publication. Then in July, at another police board meeting, Cole challenged the board to respond to accusations of a police cover-up in the brutal beating of Dafonte Miller by an off-duty police officer and his brother. When Cole refused to leave the meeting until the question was publicly addressed, he was arrested. The image of Cole walking out of the meeting, handcuffed and flanked by officers, fortified the distrust between the city’s Black community and its police force. Month-by-month, Cole creates a comprehensive picture of entrenched, systemic inequality. Urgent, controversial, and unsparingly honest, The Skin We’re In is destined to become a vital text for anti-racist and social justice movements in Canada, as well as a potent antidote to the all-too-present complacency of many white Canadians.

It's amazing what you're capable of when you have nothing to lose... Collateral damage. That's what my family was--collateral damage in a mafia war. They were my whole life. But I've found something else to live for. Vengeance. I was a wife. A daughter. Now I'm Havoc. Every last one of the bastards responsible will die. No one can stop me. Not even him. Nico Romano, Don of the Italian mafia, is a complication I don't need. He's too much like the monsters I hunt--savage, ruthless, cold. An enemy. I shouldn't want him. But I do. Falling for him might cost me my shot at revenge and the only thing of value I have left. My soul. Too bad I'm starting to think he might be worth it... Havoc, book one in The Discord Series, is a sexy, dark and angsty, enemies-to-lovers mafia romance featuring a heroine who will stop at nothing to avenge her family, and the brooding, alpha anti-hero who will do anything to keep her...even when it involves kidnapping. Happily ever after guaranteed. Download today, but grab a glass of ice water first. You're gonna need it. Be Forewarned*** This is a dark mafia romance. There are mentions of family loss, scenes with explicit violence, and some dub con. There is a HEA for this couple, but the overall story arc ends on a cliffhanger and does continue from book to book.

With the 100th anniversary of his birth on September 7, 2015 Dick Cole has long stood in the powerful spotlight of fame that has followed him since his B-25 was launched from a Navy carrier and flown toward Japan just four months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In recognition the tremendous boost Doolittle’s Raid gave American morale, members of The Tokyo Doolittle Raiders were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in May 2014. Doolittle’s Raid was only the opening act of Cole’s flying career during the war. When that mission was complete and all of the 16 aircraft had crash-landed in China, many of the survivors were assigned to combat units in Europe. Cole remained in India after their rescue and was assigned to Ferrying Command, flying the Hump of the Himalayas for a year in the world’s worst weather, with inadequate aircraft, few aids to navigation, and inaccurate maps. More than 600 aircraft with their crews were lost during this monumental effort to keep China in the war, but Cole survived and rotated home in 1943. He was home just a few months when he was recruited for the First Air Commandos and he returned to India to participate in Project 9, the aerial invasion of Burma.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Muhammad was born in Mecca, a city that was between two empires, the Roman and the Sasanian. His clan, the Hashim, served as caretakers and ministers of the Kaaba, a cube-shaped shrine to God the Most High. They maintained concord throughout the year. #2 When Muhammad was 25, he had the opportunity to escape his relative poverty. He was recommended for a job by his uncle, who owned half of Mecca’s merchant capital. He went to Syria with Khadija’s rivaled, which may have possessed half of the town’s long-distance merchant capital. #3 The Arab merchants would have traveled through the night beneath a spangled sky. They would have reached the date-palm oasis of Yathrib, where they would have stocked up on water, dates, and other refreshments. They would then have set off again north. #4 The trade route from Mecca to Roman Arabia revived in the last third of the sixth century, as did the travel between the two. The Arabs were constantly switching between the two empires, which allowed them to be both noncommittal and politically neutral.

Cheska Harlow-Wright was born into a life of luxury and privilege. She has never wanted for anything. A comfortable future as a married London socialite awaits her. But since the age of thirteen, Cheska has harbored a secret—an unshakeable fixation on a boy who could never offer her anything close to comfort. A boy steeped in sin and draped in depravity. A boy born into the possessive embrace of darkness. When Cheska’s seemingly perfect world is ripped apart by an unknown but deadly enemy, there’s only one person she can run to. One person in the world who has the power to keep her safe. The one person her weak and shattered heart craves. Arthur Adley. The new head of the most feared crime family in London. Forced too young to take the helm of the Adley firm, Arthur has become even more ruthless, formidable, and cold than ever before. His enemies are circling, and he must fight—and kill—to maintain his family’s place at the top of the London crime underworld. There is no room for weakness, emotion, or loss of control. But then Cheska smashes back into his life with the force of a wrecking ball. She has no place in this dark, vicious, and bloodthirsty world. And worse, she is the solitary chink in his impenetrable armor. He’s already pushed her away once, but this time she desperately needs him. She’s broken, lost, and in danger, and he is the only one who can help. Arthur must protect her. He must destroy those who dare to threaten her, hunt down those who would take what is his. He would raze all of London to the ground to keep her safe... but can he also protect himself? The infamous Dark Lord of London Town faces his most brutal battle yet—the crippling weight of the past, the unrelenting enemies lurking in the shadows... and the havoc that Cheska’s presence is wreaking on the granite fortress that was once his heart.
