73 – nil! Those were the days: moments of glory on the school playing field on a foggy Wednesday afternoon when the final whistle went and your school mates would gather around you, beaming their small faces at you from every conceivable direction as they congratulated you fulsomely on the 23 hat tricks you have just completed in your team’s undeniable slaughter of the opposition... Confessions of an Ageing Football Player relieves those glorious early footballing moments and takes you on a dizzying trip through the 2014 Brazil World Cup when everything was possible for whatever standard of player you thought you were. Illustrated by Paul Warren, has been drawing on an iPad since 2013. His drawing style is continually evolving and developing. He draws people, the human figure and adds a sprinkling of artistic license. He doesn’t strictly create pictures; he’s interested in facial expression, stance, form, interaction between members of society, a moment in the workaday activities. But when it comes to the journey of our story’s hero... is it Brazil’s Neymar? Or Argentina’s Messi? Or England’s Oxlade Chamberlain? Ah, dear reader, you will have to read and see to find out!

Chubby. Curvy. Funny (and that’s it). Fat. These labels are often associated with people who don’t fit the mold of what society and social media deem visually appealing and acceptable: being thin. Through the sharing of deeply personal and life-changing moments, author and body-positivity advocate Paige Fieldsted provides a stunningly honest look at how society and the ones we love impact self-image. Not only does she dig deep into the experiences that have shaped who she is today, she proudly calls upon each person to take action and accountability for how people are treated and perceived. Confessions from Your Fat Friend doesn’t pull any punches with its honest, funny, and sometimes painful revelations. Those who deal with fluctuating weight will identify with the struggle to conform. The curvy girls in each friend group will relate to the need to shop at specialty stores so they feel more confident in their skin. Most importantly, those who feel as if they don’t belong won’t feel so alone.

Confessions of a fat guy really isn't a diet book. It's about the trials and tribulations of being a fat guy in a world and the problems that go with it. I've been heavy for most of my life. I wanted to put a book together that explains what it's like to be overweight in a society where looks are everything. Most of the time, there is no room for overweight people among the masses. The problem is, about half of the people in the United States are at least overweight if not obese. There are also some startling statistics regarding overweight to obese children in our society. This book is based on my life. I'm 61 years old and have had about 10 years of my life as an in-shape male. By that I mean someone who is not looked upon as fat. There are a lot of tales of my fight to stay in shape. Most of the time I lost that fight. But I finally found a way to at least lose enough weight to be healthier. I won't be a swimsuit model anytime soon, but a guy can dream. I hope you love the book and get a few good laughs from it too. I don't take things too seriously in life. The one exception has always been the harm being overweight has caused. That's really what this book is about. Enjoy!

SHORTLISTED FOR THE TELEGRAPH RUGBY BOOK OF THE YEAR The truth about being a rugby player from the horsey's mouth. This book is not just about how a psychiatrist called Humphrey helped me get back on my horse and clippity-clop all the way to the World Cup semi-final in Japan. It's the story of how a fat kid who had to live up to the nickname Psycho grew up to play and party for over a decade with rugby's greatest pros and live weird and wonderful moments both in and out of the scrum. That's why I'm letting you read my diary on my weirdest days. You never know what you're going to get with me. From being locked in a police cell to singing Adele on Jonathan Ross (I'll let you decide which is worse), being kissed by a murderer on the number 51 bus to drug tests where clipboard-wielding men hover inches away from my naked genitalia, melting opponents in rucks, winning tackles, and generally losing blood, sweat and ears in the name of the great sport of rugby. This is how (not) to be a rugby player.

“In his rollicking, unabashed, and sometimes shocking book, Jeff Scot Philips offers an unprecedented inside look at how labels can be manipulated, regulators can be fooled, and how consumer gatekeepers—from personal trainers to nutritionists—sell high-margin ‘health food’ to an unsuspecting public that wants to lose weight.” —Oz Garcia, bestselling author of Redesigning 50 and The Balance —Why are you are you eating diet foods and getting fatter? —Why do you still have cellulite even though you eat “healthy”? —Why don’t you know what you are eating, even when you read the label? —Why does the obesity rate in America keep climbing, even though the weight-loss market is a $300 billion industry? It is because food manufacturers, the media, nutritionists, trainers, medical professionals, health inspectors, and people like Jeff Scot Philips collude for profits and are: big fat food liars.

“Hunger is the loudest voice in my head. I’m hungry most of the time.” William Leith began the eighties slim; by the end of that decade he had packed on an uncomfortable amount of weight. In the early nineties, he was slim again, but his weight began to creep up once more. On January 20th, 2003, he woke up on the fattest day of his life. That same day he left London for New York to interview controversial diet guru Dr. Robert Atkins. But what was meant to be a routine journalistic assignment set Leith on an intensely personal and illuminating journey into the mysteries of hunger and addiction. From his many years as a journalist, Leith knows that being fat is something people find more difficult to talk about than nearly anything else. But in The Hungry Years he does precisely that. Leith uses his own pathological relationship with food as a starting point and reveals himself, driven to the kitchen first thing in the morning to inhale slice after slice of buttered toast, wracked by a physical and emotional need that only food can satisfy. He travels through fast food-scented airports and coffee shops as he explores the all-encompassing power of advertising and the unattainable notions of physical perfection that feed the multibillion dollar diet industry. Fat has been called a feminist issue: William Leith’s unblinking look at the physical consequences and psychological pain of being an overweight man charts fascinating new territory for everyone who has ever had a craving or counted a calorie. The Hungry Years is a story of food, fat, and addiction that is both funny and heartwrenching. I was sitting in a café on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 24th Street in Manhattan, holding a menu. I was overweight. In fact, I was fat. Like millions of other people, I had entered into a pathological relationship with food, and with my own body. For years I had desperately wanted to write about why this had happened — not just to me, but to all those other people as well. I knew it had a lot to do with food. But I also knew it was connected to all sorts of outside forces. If I could understand what had happened to me, I could tell people what had happened to them, too. Right there and then, I decided that I would do everything to discover why I had got fat. I would look at every angle. And then I would lose weight, and report back from the slim world. —Excerpt from The Hungry Years

I originally thought of the idea of writing a book whilst I was off work sick, I wanted to write about my life as a drummer, whilst recollecting about the bands I’ve played with, memories from my childhood began to surface, I realised I have many stories to tell. As you read through this book you’ll see how I managed to make good of every situation, every accident, incident or relationship failure, I literally just carried on until the next event. I made it to 48 before the past caught up with me.
