Although practice theory has been a mainstay of social theory for nearly three decades, so far it has had very limited impact on media studies. This book draws on the work of practice theorists such as Wittgenstein, Foucault, Bourdieu, Barth and Schatzki and rethinks the study of media from the perspective of practice theory. Drawing on ethnographic case studies from places such as Zambia, India, Hong Kong, the United States, Britain, Norway and Denmark, the contributors address a number of important themes: media as practice; the interlinkage between media, culture and practice; the contextual study of media practices; and new practices of digital production. Collectively, these chapters make a strong case for the importance of theorising the relationship between media and practice and thereby adding practice theory as a new strand to the study of anthropology of media.

A Mind At A Time written by Mel Levine and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-04-04 with Education categories.

"Different minds learn differently," writes Dr. Mel Levine, one of the best-known education experts and pediatricians in America today. And that's a problem for many children, because most schools still cling to a one-size-fits-all education philosophy. As a result, these children struggle because their learning patterns don't fit the schools they are in. In A Mind at a Time, Dr. Levine shows parents and others who care for children how to identify these individual learning patterns. He explains how parents and teachers can encourage a child's strengths and bypass the child's weaknesses. This type of teaching produces satisfaction and achievement instead of frustration and failure. Different brains are differently wired, Dr. Levine explains. There are eight fundamental systems, or components, of learning that draw on a variety of neurodevelopmental capacities. Some students are strong in certain areas and some are strong in others, but no one is equally capable in all eight. Using examples drawn from his own extensive experience, Dr. Levine shows how parents and children can identify their strengths and weaknesses to determine their individual learning styles. For example, some students are creative and write imaginatively but do poorly in history because weak memory skills prevent them from retaining facts. Some students are weak in sequential ordering and can't follow directions. They may test poorly and often don't do well in mathematics. In these cases, Dr. Levine observes, the problem is not a lack of intelligence but a learning style that doesn't fit the assignment. Drawing on his pioneering research and his work with thousands of students, Dr. Levine shows how parents and teachers can develop effective strategies to work through or around these weaknesses. "It's taken for granted in adult society that we cannot all be 'generalists' skilled in every area of learning and mastery. Nevertheless, we apply tremendous pressure to our children to be good at everything. They are expected to shine in math, reading, writing, speaking, spelling, memorization, comprehension, problem solving...and none of us adults can" do all this, observes Dr. Levine. Learning begins in school but it doesn't end there. Frustrating a child's desire to learn will have lifelong repercussions. This frustration can be avoided if we understand that not every child can do equally well in every type of learning. We must begin to pay more attention to individual learning styles, to individual minds, urges Dr. Levine, so that we can maximize children's learning potential. In A Mind at a Time he shows us how.

Intercession is misunderstood by many, and l achieved to bring a collective of examples of known individuals with my experiences to share why authorship and readership are important. To be an intercessor or author one is establishing laws for a household and a nation. When a prevalent force which is divine acknowledges and approves for global circulation of the pattern of writing for healing. The law can be copied as faith writing. Faith writing is to intervene for the widows, the fatherless, the stranger, and Levite. When the international community learns this law of the mind of God there is healing and prosperity divine interactions and many other benefits among others as living a peaceful life.

It took me thirty years to write my book. This is my first book to be published. I wanted to share with the world the injustice that my family and many other families had to endure. The justice system is not always right. It tore our families apart. Not even love could fix what had been broken. I pray that something in my book might help the people that have been affected by our case or one like it. Thank you Dana Nachman and Don Hardy for doing the documentary The Witch Hunt. It gave me the incentive to finish my book. Thank you, my children, for loving me, Carol, Johnnie, Tommie, Lisa, and Bryan. Thank you, Rick, for always being there to catch this mother’s tears. Yvonne, Pam, and Misty, thank you for holding me together.

"Patterned Ground unravels the entangled relationships between nature and culture. Around 100 entries by leading names in new geography and related disciplines focus on various 'objects' in the landscape - from beaches to battlefields, bees to horses, police stations to post offices, trees to tractors. Each entry, written by an expert in the field, explores the way in which we understand that object and its relationship to the world around it." "This book is neither encyclopaedia nor dictionary, but a knowledgeable and impassioned engagement with the world. In this sense, it chimes with earlier experiments in understanding the earth and its landscapes, whether these endeavours have been conducted within the sciences, the social sciences or the arts." "Patterned Ground backtracks from familiar and obvious ways of seeing patterns in the world in order to discover the world anew. It opens up new possibilities for thinking about the relationships between ourselves, objects and the ground on which we walk."--BOOK JACKET.

Thirsty? Parched for fresh, flowing biblical insights that will revive your trial-weary heart and slake your thirst for more of Jesus? Here's some spiritual water. Water from the Rock is the final part of Greg Hinnant's devotional trilogy. Its 121 biblical devotional studies are intentionally crafted to provide more material than that offered by most devotionals in hopes of providing more inspiration and prompting further study. Ministers will find numerous sermons and teachings here and disciples study materials. These expository messages address many timely biblical subjects, yet, like the Bible, their central theme is Christ—knowing Him, pleasing Him, and learning to walk closely with Him in the hot, spiritually dry wilderness of this increasingly secular world. For that, we'll need to rehydrate our souls regularly with lots of spiritual water. So here's some Spirit-illuminated, biblical water. Take long, thoughtful drinks, again and again. May they help sustain and guide you through your wilderness trials to the Promised Land of Christian maturity!

A dedication to prayer, a pastoral heart, and a love for Scripture come together in this collection of devotions. Originally written for congregation members during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, these devotions explore every facet of Scripture from the Wisdom writings to the Revelation of St. John. Composed for daily use, they follow the liturgical calendar, beginning in the season of Lent, when the pandemic first exploded in the Midwest, and continue through the following Epiphany season, one year later. Each day’s devotion includes a substantial portion of Scripture, a brief reflection, and a prayer. It is the hope of the author, an active Lutheran pastor, that all who feel “quarantined,” whether in a pandemic or not, might find comfort, encouragement, and wisdom in these devotions.

It S The End Of The Church As We Know It written by Marc Lawson and has been published by Destiny Image Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-28 with Religion categories.

Speaking in favor of the power of God and against the traditions of men, author Marc Lawson believes that signs and wonders, miracles and demonstrations of God s power are desperately needed to defeat the onslaught of darkness our culture is accepting and endorsing more and more each day. It s the End of Church as We Know It reflects a growing dissatisfaction with the current state of the church, saying there must be more God has for Christians outside of the box. Lawson is concerned that new believers are not only being catered to with faddish trends, but they are not being invited to experience a supernatural God. Only the power of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of His gifts, says Lawson, will fulfill God s destiny for His church.
