Looking through his crystal clear rose colored lenses, Arner examines his boyhood as he searches for the answer to the age old question each of us asks from time to time, Why am I who I am? Through his warm, rich, engaging, and humorous style, readers meet and get to know unforgettable characters like The Mastermind, Jerry Yellsalot, and Claude Hopper as they explore and relive hilarious life-altering events told through the eyes of the boy who actually lived them. Hilarious and thought provoking, stories like Fudge? What Fudge?, The Stagecoach, Setting Pins, and Trust Me, This Wont Hurt, lead the reader through the maze we call childhood and the pattern-maker's mold of our teen years through which the die is made and cast that shapes us into the adults we become. Travel back now to a time not so long ago when the world seemed to spin a little slower and life was a lot simpler; a time when dreams were dreamed and adventures were lived and a boy grew into a man.

Beginning in 1907, the anthropologist Robert H. Lowie visited the Crow Indians at their reservation in Montana. He listened to tales that for many generations had been told around campfires in winter. Vivid tales of Old-Man-Coyote in his various guises; heroic accounts of Lodge-Boy and the Thunderbirds; supernatural stories about Raven-Face and the Spurned Lover; and other tales involving the Bear-Woman, the Offended Turtle, the Skeptical Husband--all these were recorded by Lowie. They were originally published in 1918 in an Anthropological Paper by the American Museum of Natural History. Myths and Traditions of the Crow Indians is now reprinted with a new introduction by Peter Nabokov. These concretely detailed accounts served the Crow Indians as entertainers, moral lessons, cultural records, and guides to the workings of the universe.

Much of this occult mystery, based on actual events, is set in the former Republic of Zaire, shortly before President Mobutu Sese Seko was deposed, resulting in a massive civil uprising that would claim the lives of more than three million people. The story centers on the spiritual awakening of a narrator whose gender is concealed for thematic purposes, and whose life is altered irrevocably following several brushes with death in a suffocating African republic on the verge of civil war. Respect for the deaD opens with the narrator¡¦s history oa dismal childhood but a love of language arts and metaphysics, and two years in the South Pacific obriefly set forth as an explanation for what follows: a grueling, life-changing sojourn in Zaire, one of the world¡¦s most dangerous dictatorships, rife with horrifying pests, poisonous snakes, footloose baboons, machine gun-toting gensdarmes, and every disease imaginable. Can something be said for a dictator¡¦s strength othe strength to keep a volatile, culturally diverse country out of war and free from terrorist infiltrators? The resulting instability and destruction in the former Republic of Zaire, shorn of its president, may be a terrifying model for what is happening in Iraq. Curiously, the narrator¡¦s sexual orientation is disguised to underscore its insignificance in the light of more important matters: What lies beneath the flesh? What happens to us after we die? Do we reincarnate? Will we have a world left to reincarnate in? Or will we destroy it? Relevant research and appalling commentary are included by pioneers in music, literature, psychiatry, psychic phenomena, and spiritual doctrine, such as Edgar Cayce, Sigmund Freud, Gina Cerminara, David Sheinkin, Brian Weiss, Shirley MacLaine, Jimi Hendrix, and Sylvia Plath. The author hints that a new promised land ofree from terror, violence, and discrimination omay yet exist in northern Maine and eastern Canada.

Boys Home written by Willis Howard and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-21 with Fiction categories.

Boy s Home by Willis Howard Boy s Home is a heart- rendering, emotional story of a young boy s struggle to find himself in a might-is-right new world. A parentless atmosphere where he is thrown into an orphanage, along with twenty-three other distraught boys. He finds himself living in an environment void of affection and compassion. It is a poignant story that will tug at your heart a story jammed with unexpected excitement. The author of Boy s Home went through eight formative years in this unusual situation, and writes his unique story in first person, realistic fiction. Damon, an adept, handsome boy, nearly two years older befriends him. He protects guides and teaches him the way of life in this uncanny climate. Everything is shared: the cliques, the problems, the pranks, the initiation rituals, the discipline, and the intimacies. Subordinated with unbelievable, unique characters: Miss Jay, the head matron, an indifferent old bitch, crafty, cold-hearted, and faster than a hummingbird with her back-handers. Mrs. Smith, the compassionate cook with an English accent, a facade of toughness, but a heart as soft and sweet as pure whipped cream; Julie, the author s first encounter with the opposite sex that leaves him with a deceived and aching, crushed nebulous heart. The thread of sexual awakening that slowly wends its way through the pages of Boy s Home becomes the unraveling and final snag to this rare and innermost story.
