The focus of this report is on artificial intelligence (AI) and human-computer interface (HCI) technology. Observations, conclusions, and recommendations regarding AI and HCI are presented in terms of six grand challenge areas which serve to identify key scientific and engineering issues and opportunities. Chapter 1 presents the panel's definitions of these and related terms. Chapter 2 presents the panel's general observations and recommendations regarding AI and HCI. Finally, Chapter 3 discusses computer science, AI, and HCI in terms of the six selected "grand challenge" areas and three time horizons, that is, short term (within the next 2 years), midterm (2 to 6 years), and long term (more than 6 years from now) and presents additional recommendations in these areas.

Today, it is considered that intelligence includes at least two skills: the ability to memorize and store knowledge, and the ability to process knowledge. The person (or machine) without any knowledge cannot be considered intelligent. The ability of learning - acquisition of new knowledge, is also one of the aspects of the intelligence, although we can classify it as an ability to solve problems. As an "intelligent feature" we can also consider the ability to communicate with other intelligent beings. For the concept of intelligence - two questions are essential: the question of knowledge and the reasoning (making conclusions), and, this corresponds to the terms of a knowledge base and a reasoning process. The component of reasoning (inference) also represents a kind of knowledge - it is knowledge about the process of carrying out new information from an existing knowledge base. This edition covers different topics from bio-intelligence science, and application of bio-intelligence in different domains - the bio-medical domain, the learning, the medicine etc.Section 1 focuses on biological aspects of the intelligence, describing biological vs. artificial intelligence, brain as an emergent finite automaton, biological neural network structure and spike activity prediction based on multi-neuron spike train data, an experiment in use of brain computer interfaces for cognitive researches, and chessboard model of human brain and an application on memory capacity.Section 2 focuses on topics from neuroscience, describing patterns discovery in brain signals using decision trees, an interactive immersive tool for brain education, art, and neuro-therapy, analyzing brain functions by subject classification of functional near-infrared spectroscopy data using convolutional neural networks analysis, modeling neuromorphic persistent firing networks, and creativity as central to critical reasoning and the facilitative role of moral education. Section 3 focuses on pattern recognition in neuro and medical applications, describing Brain-k for structural image processing: creating electrical models of the human head, application of machine learning in postural control kinematics for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, and semi supervised clustering by iterative partition and regression with neuroscience applications.Section 4 focuses on neural networks applications, describing quantum-inspired neural networks with application, training feedforward neural networks using symbiotic organisms search algorithm, artificial intelligence for speech recognition based on neural networks, and deep recurrent neural network-based auto-encoders for acoustic novelty detection.

The Scientific Study Of General Intelligence written by Helmuth Nyborg and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-07-11 with Psychology categories.

This book celebrates two triumphs in modern psychology: the successful development and application of a solid measure of general intelligence; and the personal courage and skills of the man who made this possible - Arthur R. Jensen from Berkeley University. The volume traces the history of intelligence from the early 19th century approaches, to the most recent analyses of the hierarchical structure of cognitive abilities, and documents the transition from a hopelessly confused concept of intelligence to the development of an objective measure of psychometric g. The contributions illustrate the impressive power g has with respect to predicting educational achievement, getting an attractive job, or social stratification. The book is divided into six parts as follows: Part I presents the most recent higher-stream analysis of cognitive abilities, Part II deals with biological aspects of g, such as research on brain imaging, glucose uptake, working memory, reaction time, inspection time, and other biological correlates, and concludes with the latest findings in g-related molecular genetics. Part III addresses demographic aspects of g, such as geographic-, race-, and sex-differences, and introduces differential psychological aspects as well. Part IV concentrates on the g nexus, and relates such highly diverse topics as sociology, genius, retardation, training, education, jobs, and crime to g. Part V contains chapters critical of research on g and its genetic relationship, and also presents a rejoinder. Part VI looks at one of the greatest contemporary psychologists, Professor Emeritus Arthur R. Jensen as teacher and mentor.

Intelligent Support for Computer Science Education presents the authors’ research journey into the effectiveness of human tutoring, with the goal of developing educational technology that can be used to improve introductory Computer Science education at the undergraduate level. Nowadays, Computer Science education is central to the concerns of society, as attested by the penetration of information technology in all aspects of our lives; consequently, in the last few years interest in Computer Science at all levels of schooling, especially at the college level, has been flourishing. However, introductory concepts in Computer Science such as data structures and recursion are difficult for novices to grasp. Key Features: Includes a comprehensive and succinct overview of the Computer Science education landscape at all levels of education. Provides in-depth analysis of one-on-one human tutoring dialogues in introductory Computer Science at college level. Describes a scalable, plug-in based Intelligent Tutoring System architecture, portable to different topics and pedagogical strategies. Presents systematic, controlled evaluation of different versions of the system in ecologically valid settings (18 actual classes and their laboratory sessions). Provides a time-series analysis of student behavior when interacting with the system. This book will be of special interest to the Computer Science education community, specifically instructors of introductory courses at the college level, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school level. Additionally, all the authors’ work is relevant to the Educational Technology community, especially to those working in Intelligent Tutoring Systems, their interfaces, and Educational Data Mining, in particular as applied to human-human pedagogical interactions and to user interaction with educational software.
