Theosophical charity demands that time and space should be given to the weaker members of the Society so that they discover their ignorance and cleanse themselves of the ferocious selfishness, narrow-mindedness, and conceit which have made their playing at “the higher life” an almost comical travesty. Unrelenting charity toward the shortcomings of one’s neighbour, and untiring charity with regard to the needs of one poorer than oneself, is the focus and scope of all theosophical teachings, the synthesis of all and every virtue. The foreordaining and predestining fiend-God and Satan, his subordinate agent, are human inventions: they are two of the most morally repulsive and horrible theological dogmas that the nightmares of light-hating monks have ever evolved out of their unclean fancies. Hair is closely connected with many brain functions. Old people, as they lose their hair, lose much of their memory and become weaker. The Yanadi seer grows his hair and lets no razor pass his head. Yet fashion, which has somehow succeeded in making respectability its queer ally, forbids civilized society wearing their hair long. Samson, the personification of the Sun and the Jewish Hercules, speaks of his seven locks which, when cut off, will deprive him of his physical strength, i.e., kill the material man, leaving only the spiritual. But the Bible conceals purposely the esoteric truth, that the seven locks symbolize the septenary physical man. The fact that the Roman Church has abandoned the tradition preserved by the Greek Church, in that it has adopted the solar tonsure, demonstrates that the Church of Rome is the one that has wandered farthest from the religion of the mystical Christ.

A 13-point criticism of Max Müller’s “Matsya Sukta” by H.P. Blavatsky 1. How an Oxford Orientalist and chief defender of Hinduism makes fun of the First Avatara of Vishnu, for the sole purpose of amusing his friends. 2. Max Müller’s parody is clearly intended to corrupt the Vedas. 3. There is nothing more ridiculous than a self-proclaimed Rishi. 4. Though the Vedic Mantras are not creations of any existing being, Müller had the audacity to call his ludicrous poem a Sukta. 5. Bereft of Viniyoga, Müller’s grossly irreverent little poem serves no other purpose than insolent self-conceit. 6. And his poking infantine fun to deity cast an indelible stain on his legacy. 7. The great Vedic scholar of his day not only used the Vedic form of the Gayatri Metre in his poem, he also failed to mark his words with their proper accents. 8. Since, in every creation, the Vedas are revealed to the same men only, there is no room for new Rishis; and Müller, as his travesty of the first Avatara of Vishnu shows, is most unwise if not actually foolish. 9. His “Matsya Sukta” exposes an undistinguished scholarship in Sanskrit learning, and a marked deficiency in Sanskrit grammar. 10. The poem consists of eight lines only, but even in these few lines, passages from the Rigveda have been plagiarised. 11. For a Sanskrit poet nothing is more disreputable than to “borrow” passages from another’s works. 12. Lakshmi, the Hindu Venus-Aphrodite, is the goddess of wealth, not of happiness. 13. More! Neither the Rishis of modern nor of ancient times were acquainted even with the name of the fish. How then could it be praised by them?

Evolution is double, physical and spiritual: the physical is visible but the spiritual that animates the physical is invisible, hence non-existent in the mind of the material man. Physical humanity has existed on earth for 18 million years, preceded by 300 million years of mineral and vegetable development. The allegory of Pygmalion, who fails to animate his statue, is far more philosophical and scientific concept than Adam: the human forms have existed in eternity as astral or ethereal prototypes; according to which, the lower angels evolved the protoplasmic forms of the future Egos from their own essence, thus bringing them into objective life on earth. But they would not breathe a spark of Divine Fire into the Adam-Galatea of volcanic dust simply because they could not give that sacred spark, which glows inside and expands into the flower of human reason and self-consciousness — for they had it not to give. There are four Adams, one for each of the preceding Root-Races. All this must be a galvanic shock to the spiritually blind, who pooh-pooh the “Self-born heavenly man,” the first Divine Androgyne viewed as Nature in the abstract, and represented as the ethereal man. Occultism without practice will ever be like the statue of Pygmalion that no one can animate without infusing into it a spark of the Sacred Divine Fire. The Jewish Kabbalah, the only authority of the European Occultist, is based on the secret meanings of the Hebrew scriptures, which afford no hope for the adepts to solve them practically. More! The likelihood of anyone becoming a practical Kabbalist-Rosicrucian through studying the Jewish Kabbalah single-handed, without being initiated and so being “made” by someone who “knows,” is as foolish as to hope to thread the Cretan labyrinth without a clue, or to open the secret locks of the ingenious inventors of the mediaeval ages, without having possession of the keys. The Seventh Rule of the Rosicrucian “who became but was not made” has its secret meaning, like every other phrase left by the Kabbalists to posterity. He has to struggle alone and toil long years in the hope of finding out some of the lesser secrets of the great Kabbalah. His mental, moral, and physical fitness will be tested to the extreme.
