“Evanovich…with a dash of CSI.” – Publishers Weekly (review of Lucky Stiff) Murder Takes a Holiday For Lucky O’Toole, living with murder is, well…murder. As the Chief Problem Solver for the Babylon, Las Vegas’s most over-the-top destination, mischief is in her job description, but murder? Not so much…until recently… LUCKY THE HARD WAY Facing a murder indictment, Lucky’s first love, Teddie, has flown to Macau on the heels of the real killer. A powerful figure in the Macanese underworld has Lucky’s father and his empire over a barrel. Lucky’s own hotel is days away from opening. And her engagement is very new. So, there’s only one thing for Lucky to do… Take a trip to Macau. She has five days to catch a killer, save Teddie, and rescue her empire from financial ruin. Piece of cake for someone with Lucky’s superpowers… Right? A light, funny, romantic mystery providing a Vegas escape appropriate for anyone looking for a good laugh. Get your copy today! AN INTERVIEW WITH DEBORAH COONTS Why did you decide to write humor? I’m not sure I decided to add snark to the Lucky books, specifically to Lucky’s own voice, it just happened that way. When I was a kid, my mouth always got me into trouble. Finally, I’ve found a way to harness the sarcasm for the Forces of Good—or at least in a way not to anger my grandmother. And when Lucky started talking to me, she had a strong dose of sass in her. The Lucky O'Toole Vegas Adventure series is hard to categorize. Is that by design? When I set out to write Wanna Get Lucky?, I knew I wanted to write a romp through Las Vegas. I had the characters and the setting but no real understanding of narrative drive. So, I threw a young woman out of a tour helicopter into the middle of the Pirate Show and let the story unfold. A bit of murder to keep the plot moving, some wisecracking and Vegas mischief to make you laugh, and some romance to keep it interesting. A bit of a mash up, but it works. PRAISE FOR THE LUCKY O’TOOLE VEGAS ADVENTURE SERIES “Lucky’s story is funny, fast-paced, exuberant and brilliantly realized.” - Susan Wiggs, #1 New York Times bestselling author “Get ready to win big--with a novel that will keep you glued to the pages all the way to the end.” - Brenda Novak, New York Times & USA Today bestselling author "More fun than a winning streak in Vegas. Lucky O’Toole is a character with brains, beauty, and a wry sense of humor. Readers will want to meet her again—and soon." - Diane Mott Davidson, New York Times bestselling author "Deborah Coonts...entrusts the sleuthing to a brainy beauty who sees the lighter side of human folly." - New York Times Book Review "Las Vegas is the perfect setting for this witty tale of misdirection and larger-than-life characters. Fans of J. A. Konrath's Jack Daniels series will love this." - Library Journal, starred review “A whirlwind of a kooky crime novel, and readers will enjoy every minute of it. Coonts provides the perfect solution for readers waiting for the next Stephanie Plum book.” - Booklist

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED TWO MAJOR MOTION PICTURES AND THE UPCOMING STREAMING SERIES REACHER “The truth about Reacher gets better and better. . . . This series [is] utterly addictive.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times Jack Reacher was alone, the way he liked it, soaking up the hot, electric New York City night, watching a man cross the street to a parked Mercedes and drive it away. The car contained one million dollars in ransom money because Edward Lane, the man who paid it, would do anything to get his family back. Lane runs a highly illegal soldiers-for-hire operation. He will use any tool to find his beautiful wife and child. And Jack Reacher is the best manhunter in the world. On the trail of vicious kidnappers, Reacher learns the chilling secrets of his employer’s past . . . and of a horrific drama in the heart of a nasty little war. He knows that Edward Lane is hiding something. Something dirty. Something big. But Reacher also knows this: He’s already in way too deep to stop now. And if he has to do it the hard way, he will. This edition contains an excerpt from Lee Child’s Bad Luck and Trouble.

Growing Up The Hard Way written by Grace W. Thomson and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Some memories of childhood are impossible to forget. For author Grace Thomson, the memories of her experiences of growing up during World War II in Scotland have lasted a lifetime. When the Luftwaffe bombed her small town, she and her family were forced to endure hardships daily. Grace writes of her parents' struggles to feed and clothe their children when they were faced with rationing the most basic necessities of life. There were years of hunger when she ate tree leaves to fill her empty belly. We follow Grace and her brothers through their school days when a pencil was a luxury and a slate to write on a necessity. Life equaled loss, and the family suffered the loss of a family member in the war with stoic strength. She watched her mother become so depressed that she contemplated suicide as the only way to escape her misery. Grace endured sexual harassment in dead-end jobs; eventually, she met her future husband and escaped to Canada to an unknown future.

In 1895 Joshua Slocum set sail from Gloucester, Massachusetts, in the Spray, a thirty-seven-foot sloop. More than three years later, he became the first man to circumnavigate the globe solo, and his account of that voyage, Sailing Alone Around the World, made him internationally famous. But scandal soon followed, and a decade later, with his finances failing, he set off alone once more—never to be seen again. In this definitive portrait of an icon of adventure, Geoffrey Wolff describes, with authority and admiration, a life that would see hurricanes, shipwrecks, pirate attacks, cholera, smallpox, and no shortage of personal tragedy.

The Hard Way written by Major Victor Stanley Ebbage MBE BEM and has been published by The History Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-31 with History categories.

Major Vic Ebbage was a Colonel with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, serving in Hong Kong in 1941, when his garrison was attacked by the Japanese Army. He was captured and taken prisoner to the notorious Hong Kong death camp, Samshuipo, where he was held from 30th December 1941 to August 1945. His story is an extraordinary one of survival against all the odds, but more than that it is a story of how a group of men worked together to improve conditions in the camp for their fellow prisoners. They were offered nothing by their captors, but their constant command of 'improvise', which they learned to do by recycling salvaged materials into everything from homemade nails, cooking pots and plates to surgical instruments, beds and nesting boxes. His diary demonstrates how individuals can work together in almost unimaginable adversity to improve life for their fellow man, and how imagination and innovation can flourish in even the worst conditions. This story is a model of care, humanity and inventiveness.
