Cellular Internet of Things: Technologies, Standards and Performance gives insight into the recent work performed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to develop systems for the Cellular Internet of Things. It presents both the design of the new Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology and how GSM and LTE have evolved to provide Cellular Internet of Things services. The criteria used for the design and objectives of the standardization work are explained, and the technical details and performance of each technology is presented. This book discusses the overall competitive landscape for providing wireless connectivity, also introducing the most promising technologies in the market. Users will learn how cellular systems work and how they can be designed to cater to challenging new requirements that are emerging in the telecom industry, what the physical layers and procedures in idle and connected mode look like in EC-GSM-IoT, LTE-M, and NB-IoT, and what the expected performance of these new systems is in terms of expected coverage, battery lifetime, data throughput, access delay time and device cost. Provides a detailed introduction to the EC-GSM-IoT, LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies Presents network performance of the 3GPP cellular technologies, along with an analysis of the performance of non-cellular alternatives operating in unlicensed spectrum Includes prediction of true performance levels using state-of-the-art simulation models developed in the 3GPP standardization process

Film and television create worlds, but they are also of a world, a world that is made up of stuff, to which humans attach meaning. Think of the last time you watched a movie: the chair you sat in, the snacks you ate, the people around you, maybe the beer or joint you consumed to help you unwind—all this stuff shaped your experience of media and its influence on you. The material culture around film and television changes how we make sense of their content, not to mention the very concepts of the mediums. Focusing on material cultures of film and television reception, The Stuff of Spectatorship argues that the things we share space with and consume as we consume television and film influence the meaning we gather from them. This book examines the roles that six different material cultures have played in film and television culture since the 1970s—including video marketing, branded merchandise, drugs and alcohol, and even gun violence—and shows how objects considered peripheral to film and television culture are in fact central to its past and future.

This edited collection brings together leading and emerging international scholars who explore citizenship through the two overarching themes of Indigeneity and ethnicity. They approach the subject from a range of disciplinary perspectives: historical, legal, political, and sociological. Therefore, this book makes an important and unique contribution to the existing literature through its transnational, inter- and multidisciplinary perspectives. The collection includes scholars whose work on citizenship in settler societies moves beyond the idea of inclusion (fitting into extant citizenship regimes) to innovative models of inclusivity (refitting existing models) to reflect the multiple identities of an increasingly post-national era, and to promote the recognition of Indigenous citizenships and rights that were suppressed as a formative condition of citizenship in these societies.

Adventures In Sustainable Urbanism written by Robert Krueger and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-30 with Political Science categories.

In the context of urban sustainable development, the "details" of sustainability's current expressions perpetuate environmental injustice, untenable growth, and the destruction of functioning ecosystems. In response to this state of affairs, Adventures in Sustainable Urbanism aims to prompt new debates about the consequences of sustainable urbanism as it moves from planning to practice. Contributors explore policy, practice, and experience from cities around the world, including Calgary, Christchurch, Dortmund, Vancouver, and others. Written by scholars who live in these cities, chapters offer empirically rich descriptions for opening up new lines of thinking, theorizing, and debate about the sustainable city and its actual material expressions in place. By examining the sustainable city through various analytical framings, contributors urge readers to move from viewing the sustainable city as something everyone can agree on, to a highly politicized and contested process. Additional resources are provided for readers who may wish to extend their own research into a city or theme. SUNY Press has collaborated with Knowledge Unlatched to unlock KU Select titles. The Knowledge Unlatched titles have been made open access through libraries coming together to crowd fund the publication cost. Beyond Neighbourhood Planning written by Andy Yuille and has been published by Policy Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06 with Political Science categories.

The past three decades have seen an international 'turn to participation' - letting those who will be affected by outcomes play an active role in decision-making - but there is widespread dissatisfaction with actual instances of citizen-state engagement. Neighbourhood planning in England exemplifies this contradiction. This innovative analysis brings theory, research and practice together to give insights into how and why citizen voices become effective or get excluded. Ethnographic data from detailed studies of neighbourhood planning are used to illustrate the constraints and possibilities of a wide range of participatory governance practices and social movements. The book concludes with recommendations to re-invigorate community involvement in planning and beyond.
