Back In Them Days When Patagonia Was A Mining Town written by Jose Mendoza and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In the old days, Patagonia was a mining and ranching town. The hills were dotted with mines—the Trench, Flux, World's Fair, and many, many more. Copper and silver and gold ore came down--in trucks and on burros--from mining towns such as Harshaw to the railroad in downtown Patagonia. In those days also, cowboys drove their herds into town to the pens along the railroad to wait for the cattle cars. And at night, in the local bars, miners swapped stories about ore cars that left the tracks, veins of gold ore that had not been mined yet, and miners who were maimed or who died in accidents. Joker Mendoza was there. He walked from his home across from the cattle pens eight miles uphill to the Flux, and he walked home at night with his miner's lamp lighting up the path. Today, Joker still sits in the Wagon Wheel bar from time to time, and, if you ask, will retell the stories of those days, now long gone. Pull up a stool and listen. Let Joker take you back to the mines. See if you can smell the gas and taste the dust!

Duke Chancellor, head of the Chancellor Organization, a private 'information enterprise' in the United States, assembles the unconnected and puzzling pieces of evidence from his agents around the world to understand the terrorist website that threatens: "THE AMERICAN INFIDELS WILL DIE IN (30) DAYS WHEN THE MOON IS RED!” The website counts down the number of days until the terrorist threat becomes a reality, and the future of the United States and, by inference, the world hangs in unimaginable limbo. About the Author Philip L. Rettew, after a twenty-five-year career as a technical market analyst working in southern Manhattan, is now retired and living in South Burlington, Vermont. He enjoys playing bridge, photography, cycling, road trips, and improvising music on his baby grand Steinway piano. Ten years had passed since the wife of Sheriff Wes Kincaid had been murdered by a vengeful, former prisoner. Some villagers of Riverton, Georgia couldn't fathom whey the handsome, wealthy lawman hadn't remarried--especially with that girl of his running wild...No one knew of the personal demons that plagued the man. Enter the beautiful red-haired Rachel-no stranger to grief herself-to head the local newspaper. She and Wes were immediately attracted to each other and began a passionate love affair. Together, they battled the foes that threatened to destroy them and Wes' birthright.

The Dangers Of Automation In Airliners written by Jack J. Hersch and has been published by Air World this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-24 with Transportation categories.

The award-winning journalist delves “into the confluence of modern airplane technology and pilot behavior to probe how and why flight disasters happen” (BookTrib). Aviation automation has been pushed to its limits, with pilots increasingly relying on it. Autopilot, autothrottle, autoland, flight management systems, air data systems, inertial guidance systems. All these systems are only as good as their inputs which, incredibly, can go rogue. Even the automation itself is subject to unpredictable failure. And what of the pilots? They began flight training with their hands on the throttle and yoke, and feet on the rudder pedals. Then they reached the pinnacle of their careers—airline pilot—and suddenly they were going hours without touching the controls other than for a few minutes on takeoff and landing. Are their skills eroding? Is their training sufficient to meet the demands of today’s planes? The Dangers of Automation in Airliners delves deeply into these questions. You’ll be in the cockpits of the two doomed Boeing 737 MAXs, the Airbus A330 lost over the South Atlantic, and the Bombardier Q400 that stalled over Buffalo. You’ll discover exactly why a Boeing 777 smacked into a seawall, missing the runway on a beautiful summer morning. And you’ll watch pilots battling—sometimes winning and sometimes not—against automation run amok. This book also investigates the human factors at work. You’ll learn why pilots might overlook warnings or ignore cockpit alarms. You’ll observe automation failing to alert aircrews of what they crucially need to know while fighting to save their planes and their passengers. The future of safe air travel depends on automation. This book tells its story.
