Why Men Won T Ask For Directions written by Richard C. Francis and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-03 with Science categories.

Much of the evolutionary biology that has grabbed headlines in recent years has sprung from the efforts of sociobiologists and evolutionary psychologists to explain sexual features and behavior--even differences between how men and women think--as evolutionary adaptations. They have looked to the forces of natural selection to explain everything from the mimicry of male mockingbirds to female orgasms among humans. In this controversial book, Richard Francis argues that the utility of this approach is greatly exaggerated. He proposes instead a powerful alternative rooted in the latest findings in evolutionary biology as well as research on the workings of our brains, genes, and hormones. Exploring various sexual phenomena, Francis exposes fundamental defects in sociobiology and evolutionary psychology, which he traces to their misguided emphasis on "why" questions at the expense of "how" questions. Francis contends that this preoccupation with "why" questions (such as, "Why won't men ask for directions"?) results in a paranoiac mindset and distorted evolutionary explanations. His alternative framework entails a broader conception of what constitutes an evolutionary explanation, one in which both evolutionary history, as embodied in the tree of life, and developmental processes are brought to the foreground. This alternative framework is also better grounded in basic biology. Deeply learned, consistently persuasive, and always engaging, this book is a welcome antidote to simplistic sociobiological exegeses of animal and human behavior.

Top Brain Bottom Brain written by Stephen Michael Kosslyn and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-31 with Business & Economics categories.

One of the world's leading neuroscientists teams up with an accomplished writer to debunk the popular left-brain/right-brain theory and offer an exciting new way of thinking about our minds. The second edition, with expanded practical applications, highlights how readers can harness the theory to succeed in their own lives. For the past fifty years, popular culture has led us to believe in the left-brain vs. right-brain theory of personality types. Right-brain people, we've been told, are artistic, intuitive, and thoughtful, while left-brain people tend to be more analytical, logical, and objective. It would be an illuminating theory if it did not have one major drawback: It is simply not supported by science. Dr. Stephen M. Kosslyn, who Steven Pinker calls “one of the world's great cognitive neuroscientists,” explains with cowriter G. Wayne Miller an exciting new theory of the brain. Presenting extensive research in an inviting and accessible way, Kosslyn and Miller describe how the human brain uses patterns of thought that can be identified and understood through four modes of thinking: Mover, Perceiver, Stimulator, and Adaptor. These ways of thinking and behaving shape your personality, and with the scientifically developed test provided in the book, you'll quickly be able to determine which mode best defines your own usual style. Once you've identified your usual mode of thought, the practical applications are limitless, from how you work with others when you conduct business, to your personal relationships, to your voyage of self-discovery.

PMS: A Guy's Roadmap (In case you won't ask for directions), wraps various PMS explanations in laughs, providing men with a better understanding of the phenomenon in an interesting way, and providing women with a complete explanation they can offer as to why they're eating Cheesey Puffies with their ice cream. This essential guide covers some of the most perplexing female issues, such as: Why we ask men questions and leave the room as they answer; The shoe-shopping chromosome; Bathroom Bonding; When to lie; Recipes for maximizing shortening content; The fatty/sweet, fatty/salty PMS paradox; Mood elevation techniques, including 12 ways to destroy the Victoria's Secret catalog; The benefits of the "half time show"; and more! No matter how many times their women experience PMS, men seem to need more guidance in understanding it. By the conclusion of this book, they will have a clear understanding of why they found it so confounding in the first place. Charts, graphs and historical anecdotes round out this laugh-out-loud perspective on a timeless problem. So for all those males lost every 28 days, or for those who need a fairly affordable gift quickly, this book is for you.

Don T Ask Any Old Bloke For Directions written by Palden Gyatso Tenzing and has been published by Penguin Books India this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Fiction categories.

Exploring a karmic network in 25,320 kilometres After twenty years in the Indian Administrative Service, P.G. Tenzing throws off the staid life of a bureaucrat to roar across India on an Enfield Thunderbird, travelling light with his possessions strapped on the back of his bike. On the nine-month motorcycle journey without a pre-planned route or direction, he encounters acquaintances who appear to be from his karmic past: from the roadside barber to numerous waiters and mechanics-- fleeting human interactions and connections that seem pre-ordained. Life on the road is full of pot holes in more ways than one, but Tenzing acquires a wheelie's sixth sense. He is unfazed by suspicious hotel receptionists or other unkarmic sceptics who take one look at his dishevelled, unkempt appearance and ask for an advance, or a deposit or both. Tenzing's views on life and death, friendship and love are informed by a certain dark humour. But his conviction that everything revolves around the sacred bond that humans share with each other and with the universe is deeply felt and inspiring. Sometime singer with a Gangtok band, a dabbler in vipassana meditation and a supporter of a monk's school at Mangan, Sikkim, P.G. Tenzing is self-confessedly at a mid-life crisis point and ready for all the adventures this world has to offer.
