Jahrhunderts n. Chr. Glauben, Hoffen, Lieben zu artikulieren, das heißt zu vermenschlichen, ist darin auch die ausgefaltete Resonanz, wie mir scheint, auf die Menschwerdung Gottes, in der wir Menschen göttlichen Atem spüren darin, wie Gott selbst sich aussetzt in alle Prismen des Lebens bis ins Leiden, bis in Tod und Sterben – und darin dem Tod nicht die letzte Antwort auf unsere Existenz lässt. Dem Leben, dem MEHR an Leben zu trauen, das ist die größere Hoffnung, die aufscheint aus den spirituellen Profilen des Buches, im Lauschen auf den je innezeltenden Gott, der zur Güte des Guten weist.

Der Klang des Meeres beschreibt die Erlebnisse des Autors in einem zenbuddhistischen Laienkloster. Der Text schildert einen 44-tägigen Aufenthalt im Oktober, November und Dezember des Jahres 2006, das Bemühen um die Lösung des Koans, jener rätselhaft erscheinenden, paradoxen Aufgabe, die dem Schüler von seinem Meister gegeben wird. Er berichtet von dem Ringen um die Lösung der Frage, stellt sie als eine Herausforderung dar, die Tag für Tag gestellt und bewältigt werden will. Von zentraler Bedeutung ist hierbei die Begegnung des Schülers mit dem Meister, in der er ihm seine Antwort – erfolgreich oder nicht – zeigt. Der Klang des Meeres zeichnet den Tagesablauf im Kloster nach, das Bemühen um die Erforschung des "Weltinnenraumes", die schlussendliche Lösung des Koans und die damit verbundene außerordentliche Erfahrung. Der Klang des Meeres versucht, die Konfrontation eines Mitteleuropäers mit einem Erkenntnisweg aufzuzeigen, der durch dessen Rezeption im Abendland auch Anpassungsprozessen unterworfen ist, die unter vielfältigen Aspekten zu betrachten sind.
