Transputers constitute a revolutionary category of microprocessors for parallel processing which have become market leaders in 32-bit RISC architectures. The wide range of applications has caused a multitude of activities of user groups in all major countries, as well as regional activities on four continents. For the first time the collaboration of all these user groups has let to the organization of a world conference: Transputing '91.

This book is an edited selection of the papers presented at the International Workshop on VLSI for Artifidal Intelligence and Neural Networks which was held at the University of Oxford in September 1990. Our thanks go to all the contributors and especially to the programme committee for all their hard work. Thanks are also due to the ACM-SIGARCH, the IEEE Computer Society, and the lEE for publicizing the event and to the University of Oxford and SUNY-Binghamton for their active support. We are particularly grateful to Anna Morris, Maureen Doherty and Laura Duffy for coping with the administrative problems. Jose Delgado-Frias Will Moore April 1991 vii PROLOGUE Artificial intelligence and neural network algorithms/computing have increased in complexity as well as in the number of applications. This in tum has posed a tremendous need for a larger computational power than can be provided by conventional scalar processors which are oriented towards numeric and data manipulations. Due to the artificial intelligence requirements (symbolic manipulation, knowledge representation, non-deterministic computations and dynamic resource allocation) and neural network computing approach (non-programming and learning), a different set of constraints and demands are imposed on the computer architectures for these applications.

This volume contains most of the papers presented at the 6th Logic Programming Conference held in Tokyo, June 22-24, 1987. It is the successor of Lecture Notes in Computer Science volumes 221 and 264. The contents cover foundations, programming, architecture and applications. Topics of particular interest are constraint logic programming and parallelism. The effort to apply logic programming to large-scale realistic problems is another important subject of these proceedings.

The Next Generation Of Information Systems written by M. Papazoglou and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Artificial intelligence categories.

"Traditional database systems have been able to manipulate large amounts of data efficiently, whilst artificial intelligence (and in particular expert systems) have reasoned with rules, but rarely with data. It has become evident that to build truly intelligent information systems, facilities are required from artificial intelligence and database and distributed technologies. This book consists of seventeen selected and revised papers on the next generation of information systems, based on papers presented at two workshops, one on integrating artificial intelligence and databases, and the other on intelligent and cooperating information systems. The papers address several core issues, such as intelligence, distribution, and multi-agent/cooperative systems, and focuses on designing and building such systems mainly through the use of intelligent agents. The book presents up-to-date developments in this interdisciplinary field, covering information systems, artificial intelligence, and distributed systems."--PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE.

Parallel Computing On Distributed Memory Multiprocessors written by Füsun Özgüner and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.

Advances in microelectronic technology have made massively parallel computing a reality and triggered an outburst of research activity in parallel processing architectures and algorithms. Distributed memory multiprocessors - parallel computers that consist of microprocessors connected in a regular topology - are increasingly being used to solve large problems in many application areas. In order to use these computers for a specific application, existing algorithms need to be restructured for the architecture and new algorithms developed. The performance of a computation on a distributed memory multiprocessor is affected by the node and communication architecture, the interconnection network topology, the I/O subsystem, and the parallel algorithm and communication protocols. Each of these parametersis a complex problem, and solutions require an understanding of the interactions among them. This book is based on the papers presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute held at Bilkent University, Turkey, in July 1991. The book is organized in five parts: Parallel computing structures and communication, Parallel numerical algorithms, Parallel programming, Fault tolerance, and Applications and algorithms.
