The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1989, volume 4, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from May 19, 1989, through January 4, 1991. In the middle of May 1989 Brother Lee returned to Anaheim, California, after spending more than two months in the Far East. At the end of the third week in May Brother Lee visited Cleveland, Ohio, and Newton and Cambridge, Massachusetts, until the end of the first week in June. At that time he returned to Anaheim and remained there until the end of 1989. The contents of this volume are divided into eight sections, as follows: 1. Sixteen messages given in Anaheim, California; Cleveland, Ohio; and Newton, Massachusetts, on May 19 through June 6, 1989. These messages were previously published in a ten-chapter book entitled The Advance of the Lord's Recovery Today and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on July 8 and 9, 1989. These messages were previously published in a three-chapter book entitled A Summary of the Study of the New Testament Way of Christian Service and are included in this volume under the same title. Chapters 2 and 3 of this section also appear as chapters 10 and 11 in Elders' Training, Book 9: The Eldership and the God-ordained Way (1), which is included in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1986, volume 3. 3. Ten messages given in Anaheim, California, on September 4 through December 14, 1989. These messages were previously published in two volumes entitled Talks concerning the Church Services, Part 1 and Part 2 and are included in this volume under the title Talks concerning the Church Services. 4. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, on November 23 through 25, 1989. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Organic Building Up of the Church as the Body of Christ to Be the Organism of the Processed and Dispensing Triune God and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1986, volume 3, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from June 8, 1986, through July 9, 1989. At the beginning of June 1986 Brother Lee returned from Taipei, Taiwan, to Anaheim, California, and was there for a few days before traveling to Irving, Texas, after the third week of June. He spent about two weeks in Irving, and from there he returned to Anaheim and ministered there until the end of August. In the last few days in August Brother Lee returned to Taipei and remained there until the end of the first week in October. Brother Lee then returned to Anaheim and spent about a month there before returning to Taipei in November. At the end of December Brother Lee traveled to Irving and ministered there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into ten sections, as follows: 1. Three messages given in Anaheim, California, on June 8 through August 24, 1986. These messages are included in this volume under the title Fellowship concerning the New Way. 2. A message given at the funeral of Brother Abraham Chang in Irving, Texas, on July 5, 1986. This message is included in this volume under the title Speaking at Brother Abraham Chang's Funeral. 3. Eleven messages given in Irving, Texas, on July 5 and December 23, 1986, on December 22, 1987, and on December 31, 1988, through January 2, 1989; in Anaheim, California, on July 9, 1988, and on July 8 and 9, 1989; and in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 5, 1988. In this issue of The Ministry, we continue the series of messages on the present practice in God’s economy. These messages, given at a crucial time in the Lord’s recovery, unveil the practice of the new way which the Lord gave to the churches through Brother Lee’s ministry and practical leading. In the message which we include here, Brother Lee emphasizes our need to carry out the begetting, nourishing, and teaching in the meetings in the believers’ homes. To carry out the new way, we must no longer build up the big meetings of the church, which have the clergy-laity system as their root. This truly involves a spiritual warfare, so we must struggle every step of the way, especially in prayer, to participate in the fighting service in God’s economy. The subsequent six messages are from the second half of the Living Stream Ministry’s Summer Training of 1997, entitled The Crucial Contents of God’s New Testament Ministry. This training, which followed immediately after our brother’s departure, was a thorough review of the contents of the New Testament ministry, which he brought to us over many years. On the occasion of Brother Lee’s departure, we can consider all that the Lord has unveiled to us, all the truths which were recovered for us through our brother’s faithful ministry, to bring us into the Lord’s recovery and into the experience of Christ and the reality of the Body of Christ for God’s eternal economy to consummate the New Jerusalem. The local churches raised up under this ministry will speak these things, teach these things, write these things, and live these things until we meet the Lord. Last, we include an encouraging report on the spread of the ministry through the marketing of our publications in Christian bookstores. We also report on the work to produce the Recovery Version of the New Testament in the Russian language, which is now in its fifth and final year. A letter from the co-workers in the former Soviet Union brings us up to date on the Lord’s move there in the first training for the responsible brothers and the recent winter training held in Moscow, and letters from Berlin, Germany report on the progress in publishing and distributing books by Watchman Nee in the German language.
