In a world where innovation is considered to be a key driver for a new economy, Higher Education Institutions (HEI) can play a pivotal role. With this understanding, HEI in Latin America, have become significantly more entrepreneurial over the last decades in order to perform their 'third mission' - provide a greater benefit to society. UniTransfer, the project that gives birth to this book, emerges as a response to a better understanding of the nature of knowledge and technology transfer (KTT), presenting interesting alternative approaches to KTT such as; 'Science-to-business marketing', 'Partnering approaches for knowledge transfer' and 'Academic Entrepreneurship'; further it offers tools and proposes actions to implement change from within the structures of HEIs in Central America and Mexico. This publication portrays the projects developed by the participants from UniTransfer - Executive Training Course. Each chapter constitutes an approach and a good practice that can be further consulted by any other academic institution in a similar context striving for change to success. Moreover, the projects developed from each participant illustrate the specific profiles, visions and missions, as well as organisational and governance frameworks that the new leadership in higher education needs to embrace if it ought to fulfil its new entrepreneurial role beyond the traditional boundaries of the HEI. Over the last decade, spin glass theory has turned from a fascinating part of t- oretical physics to a ?ourishing and rapidly growing subject of probability theory as well. These developments have been triggered to a large part by the mathem- ical understanding gained on the fascinating and previously mysterious “Parisi solution” of the Sherrington–Kirkpatrick mean ?eld model of spin glasses, due to the work of Guerra, Talagrand, and others. At the same time, new aspects and applications of the methods developed there have come up. The presentvolumecollects a number of reviewsaswellas shorterarticlesby lecturers at a summer school on spin glasses that was held in July 2007 in Paris. These articles range from pedagogical introductions to state of the art papers, covering the latest developments. In their whole, they give a nice overview on the current state of the ?eld from the mathematical side. The review by Bovier and Kurkova gives a concise introduction to mean ?eld models, starting with the Curie–Weiss model and moving over the Random Energymodels up to the Parisisolutionof the Sherrington–Kirkpatrikmodel. Ben Arous and Kuptsov present a more recent view and disordered systems through the so-called local energy statistics. They emphasize that there are many ways to look at Hamiltonians of disordered systems that make appear the Random Energy model (or independent random variables) as a universal mechanism for describing certain rare events. An important tool in the analysis of spin glasses are correlation identities.

In 1895 trok de 21-jarige Anton Philips, na drie jaar HBS en een stage op de Amsterdamse en Londonse beursvloer, naar het provinciestadje Eindhoven om zijn oudere broer Gerard te helpen met het verkopen van gloeilampen. In twee decennia groeide hij uit tot een topondernemer van on-Nederlands - ja, van wereldformaat, dankzij zijn enorme geldingsdrang, charme, ondernemersbloed, strategisch talent, en werklust. Hij loodste het bedrijf door de Eerste Wereldoorlog, de krach van 1929, de recessie van de jaren dertig én de Tweede Wereldoorlog, en bouwde het en passant uit tot een wereldwijd opererende elektronica-multinational. Onderzoeksjournalist Marcel Metze dook in de archieven van Philips Electronics en van de familie Philips en diepte daaruit vele honderden nog ongepubliceerde brieven en documenten op. Op basis hiervan schreef hij een biografie van deze Nederlandse tycoon. Metze schreef een spannende, levendige, genadeloos eerlijke biografie, die de lezer van zeer nabij met de man en zijn spel laat 'meeleven'. Anton Philips was geen 'graaier' en hij bouwde zijn koninkrijk niet op riskante financieringen. Maar zoals Metze laat zien, kon hij behalve charmant ook hard zijn, kon hij zowel bóven als ónder de gordel slaan. Anton Philips was geen denker maar een doener. En steeds vanuit die geldingsdrang: 'ze zullen weten wie ze voor zich hebben'.

This volume contains a selection of essays presented at the international conference of Cultural Crises in Art and Literature, held in Groningen in November 2002, in special sessions concerning modern Dutch literature.
