Cultures clash and passion ignites in the novel that will leave you begging for more—from the bestselling author of The Affair and Looking Inside. There’s something about this woman… On a break between overseas jobs, journalist Asher Gaites returns to his hometown of Chicago—and allows his friends to persuade him to check out a hot new singer. At a downtown jazz club, he’s soon transfixed by the lyrical voice and sensuous body of a woman who performs behind a thin, shimmering veil... …That could bring a man to his knees. The veil gives Moroccan-American Laila Barek the anonymity she needs since she has never been able to reconcile her family’s values with her passion for music. But one man is inexplicably drawn to her. And when Asher confronts her on a subway platform after a gig, he’s shocked to recognize the woman who walked away from him nine years ago... Laila has never been able to forget the touch, the feel, the taste of Asher. And despite the doubt and fear that wind their way into their lives, they must trust the heat of their desire to burn down the walls the world has placed between them… MATURE AUDIENCE

Behind the Curtain takes a look where the Leftist billionaire’s club doesn’t want you to go—into the world of dark money and influence that has only one goal: to stop conservatives and Donald Trump by any means necessary. You’re probably familiar with George Soros. You may be familiar with Tom Steyer. You may even know who their other billionaire buddies are on the Left, and which foundations they use to exert political pressure. But do you know how they organize their dollars and their organizations to have maximum impact, while shielding themselves from voter scrutiny and criminal charges? Behind the Curtain is a look into the murky world of dark money—massive amounts of it aligned to push a far-left agenda that would make even mainstream liberals shiver. Behind the Curtain reveals the sordid web of limousine liberals and subversive billionaires in a chilling tale of power, greed, envy, and the politics of personal destruction. It is also the story of the lengths to which the organized Left will go to overturn the results of the 2016 election using the courts, a shadowy network of nonprofit organizations and consulting firms, and an increasingly compliant media.

An autobiography by a young British man who, while training to be a doctor, had an accident on a skiing holiday that resulted in many injuries from which he was frankly lucky to survive. As well as having to contend with spinal cord injury and consequent long-term paralysis from the lower chest down, a complication with his windpipe resulted in inability to speak for almost a year until he had major reconstructive throat surgery. He did indeed need to use all of his reserves simply to survive and contemplating any sort of worthwhile independence early on in his recovery would have seemed fanciful. This book documents his remarkable recovery from hospital to home, return to training to be a doctor and how he has managed to have a truly full life in the face of great adversity. It should appeal to anyone who wants to marvel at and be inspired by his amazing achievements.

"Behind the Curtains of Joy" is a book that embodies the struggle of the depressed, through which we get closer to some of their pains and needs, reveal some of their precious treasures, and help others understand the horrible sufferings of the depressed, and how the sound of their silence is loudly voiced out every day. In fact, depression is the worst diseases of the world, and the most painful and complicated one that it killed more humans than wars. Scholars and philosophers exerted much effort to define depression, however, it remained a disease difficult to understand and manage. Some define it as: a mere manifestation of a sense of helplessness toward achievement of goals, in which case despair is attributed to personal anguishes. In this context, hope is seen as a function for recognizing the likelihood of success in terms of its relevance to achieving goals. Others described it as a mental illness characterized by a deep and lasting feeling of sadness, despair, or loss of interest in things that were once a source of joy, accompanied by a sleep, appetite for food, and mental processes disorder. Other scholars confine it to a state of despair, hopelessness, and fear, accompanied by negative thoughts, and changes in the ecosystem of motivation, or in the driving forces of man, in the perceptions, and in the negative behavior in general. Many others got closer to what depression is by defining it as "a state of ongoing severe sadness caused by sad painful conditions, representing something missing, though the patient seems to be unaware of the real source of his/her sadness". However, other scholars defined depression as: "a case of psychological imbalance, which primarily affects the person's mood and ideals, thus exposing him/her to moral pain and distress". It thus becomes clear that there are many definitions and explanations put forward by many scholars and philosophers who are affiliated to study of Medicine, Psychology, and Sociology. However, the most accurate and correct definition of depression from my point of view is: "that feeling only depressed people experience." Yes, this only is the definition of depression. Simply, in order for someone to be able to define depression the way it should be defined, s/he must first experience it so s/he can fairly describe it, which is something I do not wish for anyone.
