Why Antibiotic Resistance? The use of antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine may have consequences beyond their intended applications. The “One Health” concept recognizes that the health of humans is connected to the health of animals and the environment. Progress in molecular genetics is facilitating the rapid evaluation of the essentiality of these targets on a genomic scale. In 2015, a group of researchers established the International Conference on Antibiotic Resistance (IC2AR).The primary objective of this meeting is to bring together scientists involved in antibiotic resistance prevention and control. The IC2AR conducted its inaugural world congress in January 2015 at Caparica (Portugal). Antimicrobial resistance presents a significant challenge to scientists in the field of infectious diseases. The full knowledge of how antibiotics resistance is evolving and being transmitted between hosts in different ecosystems is taking on great importance. Necessary action includes research to define the scope of the problem including its various sources. This eBook comprises a series of original research and review articles dealing with the epidemiology of resistance in animal and zoonotic pathogens, mobile elements containing resistance genes, the omics of antimicrobial resistance, emerging antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, control of resistant infections, establishing antimicrobial use and resistance surveillance systems, and alternatives strategies to overcome the problem of antimicrobial resistance worldwide. Overcoming Obstacles In Drug Discovery And Development written by Kan He and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-18 with Medical categories.
Overcoming Obstacles in Drug Discovery and Development uses real-world case studies to illustrate how critical thinking and problem solving skills are applied in the discovery and development of drugs. It also shows how developing critical thinking to overcome issues plays an essential role in the process. Modern drug discovery and development is a highly complex undertaking that requires scientific and professional expertise to be successful. After the identification of a molecular entity for treating a medical condition, challenges inevitably arise during the subsequent development to understand and characterize the biological profile; feedback from scientists is used to fine-tune the molecular entity to obtain an effective and safe product. In this process, the discovery team may identify unexpected safety issues and new medical disorders for treatment by the molecular entity. Invariably inherent in this complex undertaking are miscues, mistakes, and unexpected problems that can derail development and throw timetables into disarray, potentially leading to failure in the development of a medically useful drug. Addressing critical unexpected problems during development often requires scientists to utilize critical thinking and imaginative problem-solving skills. Overcoming Obstacles in Drug Discovery and Development will be essential to young scientists to help learn the skills to successfully face challenges, learn from mistakes, and further develop critical thinking skills. It will also be beneficial to experienced researchers who can learn from the case studies of successful and unsuccessful drug development. - Provides real-world case studies in drug discovery and the development of drugs - Illustrates the use of critical thinking and problem solving in approaching preclinical and clinical problems in drug discovery and development - Illustrates and analyses examples of successes and failures in drug discovery and development that have not previously been reported

Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) is a second messenger of paramount biological importance, involved in the regulation of a significant number of cellular functions through the cAMP-dependent intracellular signal transduction pathways. The aim of this "Frontiers in Pharmacology" Research Topic was to attract contributions that highlight emerging ideas in the cAMP field that: (i) describe its role in cellular function and homeostasis, (ii) present the current approaches to its pharmacological manipulation, and (iii) clarify its central role in the development of more targeted therapeutic approaches toward a spectrum of diseases. The present collection of articles highlights, in a representative (but certainly not exhaustive) way, the research activity and emerging concepts in the field, while it also reveals the therapeutic potential that targeted pharmacological manipulation of intracellular cAMP levels could exert on a number of pathological conditions.
