La biografía del mítico editor Josep Janés, fundador de Janés Editores. La cultura española de entre 1939 y 1975 sería otra sin la labor editorial de Josep Janés (1913-1959), pese a su temprana muerte. Se hace difícil pensar que alguien hubiera podido llevar a buen término tal empresa en el breve espacio de tiempo en que él lo hizo y en las circunstancias de la postguerra española. Buena parte de la literatura escrita en lenguas españolas en esa época no hubiera existido sin el influjo y el estímulo de las traducciones de obras británicas, húngaras, francesas, italianas o estadounidenses que Janés hizo accesibles a los lectores, en el momento en que eran convenientes y necesarias. El valor fundamental de esa labor es que atenuó y hasta cierto punto contrarrestó la cerril cultura literaria que a partir de 1939 promovía el régimen franquista.
