In the decades following the Mexican Revolution, nation builders, artists, and intellectuals manufactured ideologies that continue to give shape to popular understandings of indigeneity and mestizaje today. Postrevolutionary identity tropes emerged as part of broader efforts to reunify the nation and solve pressing social concerns, including what was posited in the racist rhetoric of the time as the “Indian problem.” Through a complex alchemy of appropriation and erasure, indigeneity was idealized as a relic of the past while mestizaje was positioned as the race of the future. This period of identity formation coincided with a boom in technology that introduced a sudden proliferation of images on the streets and in homes: there were more photographs in newspapers, movie houses cropped up across the country, and printing houses mass-produced calendar art and postcards. La Raza Cosmética traces postrevolutionary identity ideals and debates as they were dispersed to the greater public through emerging visual culture. Critically examining beauty pageants, cinema, tourism propaganda, photography, murals, and more, Natasha Varner shows how postrevolutionary understandings of mexicanidad were fundamentally structured by legacies of colonialism, as well as shifting ideas about race, place, and gender. This interdisciplinary study smartly weaves together cultural history, Indigenous and settler colonial studies, film and popular culture analysis, and environmental and urban history. It also traces a range of Indigenous interventions in order to disrupt top-down understandings of national identity construction and to “people” this history with voices that have all too often been entirely ignored.

Advances In Oral Biology written by Peter H. Staple and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Medical categories.

Advances in Oral Biology, Volume 1, aims to facilitate communication between dental scientists by providing critical surveys of the state of knowledge in selected areas of biology that bear upon growth, development, and maintenance of normal function of oral tissues on the one hand, and on the other, departures from this norm that eventually become recognized as disease. The value of this broad approach is well illustrated by the contributions appearing in this first volume, wherein the authors show the extent to which a multidisciplined approach has led to the acquisition of new information about the structure, chemical composition, and function of oral tissues. The book contains 11 chapters and opens with a discussion of salivary secretions. This is followed by separate chapters on movement and forces in tooth eruption; physiological concepts of mastication; studies of mucins and blood-group substances; cytochemical aspects of oxidative enzyme metabolism in gingival; and dynamics of supragingival calculus formation. Subsequent chapters deal with the effect of tetracycline on mineralization and growth; citrate in mineralized tissues; polarization microscopy of dental enamel; and changes in the properties and composition of the dentin matrix caused by dental caries.

This book argues that the Arab Spring brought to the forefront numerous societal, political, and historical problems in the Middle East that scholars and practitioners throughout the 20th century and into the 21st century have continually glossed over or reduced in their analysis and analytical frameworks when studying the Middle East. These include the prevalent and persistent impact of Islam on political life, an impact of transnational and subnational identities, including sect, tribe, and regional identity, as well as the overuse of the state as the fundamental unit of analysis when studying the region. As a result, this book asserts that primordial identities including religion, sect, and tribe have, and will continue to have, a significant impact on the conduct of politics in the Middle East.

Le-Sel Research, a family-owned, South African manufacturer of beauty products, launched Beauty Factory in 2011, after seeing a gap for affordable, high-quality beauty products. As a boutique retailer of beauty and home products, the brand had achieved early success, but growth and profitability had faltered as the economy had weakened. The marketing team believed that the brand had great potential. However, the challenge was to ensure that it reached its potential amidst the changing market conditions. Andrew Frodsham, the owner and CEO of Le-Sel Research, was considering a radical shift in strategy from selling only through its branded Beauty Factory outlets to selling through some or all of the big retail chains in South Africa. In early 2014, he met with his team to map out the future of Beauty Factory.
