Constanze raakt door hem gefascineerd, maar de componist heeft enkel oog voor haar oudste zus Luise, die hem echter afwijst. Jaren later, tijdens een gemaskerd bal in Wenen, ziet Constanze Mozart weer en ze worden al snel verliefd. De twee verloven zich, maar Mozarts vader geeft zijn zoon niet zomaar toestemming om te trouwen met een ‘Weberische’. Ze trouwen toch en tijdens hun huwelijk moet Constanze toezien terwijl haar echtgenoot met Luise werkt, net als met talloze andere zangeressen over wie hij lyrisch is. In 1791 sterft Mozart en hij laat Constanze achter met schulden, twee kleine kinderen en stapels bladmuziek. Aan haar de taak om haar leven weer op te pakken en zorg te dragen voor de muzikale erfenis van de grote componist. In deze historische roman vol muziek geeft Femke Roobol een beeld van de vrouw die door Mozarts familie werd gehaat terwijl Mozart zelf haar zo hartstochtelijk liefhad. Dynastic Colonialism analyses how women and men employed objects in particular places across the world during the early modern period in order to achieve the remarkable expansion of the House of Orange-Nassau. Susan Broomhall and Jacqueline Van Gent explore how the House emerged as a leading force during a period in which the Dutch accrued one of the greatest seaborne empires.
