La formación y el desarrollo del conocimiento,en el ámbito de la Educación Superior, van a ocupar un lugar privilegiado en la agenda del desarrollo social y productivo. Ahora bien, esta formación, sus acentos, sus contenidos, así como los modos de generación de conocimiento, van a requerir de aproximaciones , de condiciones y recursos para la práctica formativa, en buena medida, diferenciados de los actuales. Si se aspira a formar a 'los mejores estudiantes', tal vez se deban implementar también 'los mejores procesos de enseñanza'. No hay resultados independiemente, o a pesar, de los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje vivenciados. Este texto aporta argumentos y recursos, elaborados desde la práctica docente, para potenciar la autonomía en los alumnos con respecto a su propio aprendizaje, entendida dicha autonomía como un indicador relevante de la calidad de aquél. Las preguntas a las que el texto trata de dar respuesta se pueden sintetizar en tres: ¿podemos hablar de calidad en los aprendizajes , sin que éstos sean de naturaleza profunda? ¿Podemos mejorar los niveles de profundidad del aprendizaje, sin contar con la autonomía intelectual del alumno, sin un mayor compromiso hacia aquello que se le propone y debe realizar? O bien, ¿cómo favorecer entre los estudiantes los mejores enfoques y recursos para que puedan desarrollar su potencial de autonomía?

En esta metodología, se imparte una modalidad de educación presencial, en la que se acude a un sitio específico y a una hora específica, para escuchar la lección.
