F A 18e F A 18f Super Hornet In Detail Scale written by Haagen Klaus and has been published by Detail & Scale this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-16 with History categories.

Detail & Scale produced its first book on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in 2004 when what is today’s principal combat aircraft of the U. S. Navy was just entering operational fleet service. Since then, the history of the Super Hornet has expanded remarkably, and in 2010, the EA-18G Growler was introduced. This new work, F/A-18E & F/A-18F Super in Detail & Scale: Also Includes the EA-18G Growler, brings our original work forward sixteen years, with nearly all-new content, more photographs (all in color), and the addition of new artwork. The photographic content includes work by some of the best aviation photographers along with material from U. S. Navy and Boeing archives. These are complemented by 180 photographs taken specifically for this book which are available nowhere else. This new book is an up-to-date, far more comprehensive, and much larger publication on the U.S. Navy’s Super Hornet and Growler. The book begins with an overview of the developmental history of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which emerged from a response to key shortcomings of the otherwise successful F/A-18 “Legacy” Hornets. The next chapter provides a comprehensive synopsis of the aircraft’s structure and systems including avionics, radars and sensors, powerplant, armament, and other stores. This is followed by an all-new chapter on the EA-18G Growler electronic warfare (EW) variant, covering its development and the key features of its unique EW systems. The next chapter provides an up-to-date operational history of the Super Hornet and Growler from the flight test program to the aircraft’s contributions in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and INHERENT RESOLVE. This section also features an account of the Super Hornet’s first air-to-air kill in 2017 with several photographs of the aircraft that scored the kill. Australian F/A-18Fs and EA-18Gs are also covered in this chapter. The F/A-18E/F and EA-18G still have at least another two decades of service ahead. The next chapter of the book outlines future Super Hornet and Growler developments from the forthcoming Block III upgrade to the Next Generation Jammers for the EA-18G. Photo galleries of some of the more notable Super Hornet and Growler paint schemes over the last two decades follow. A comprehensive chapter on Super Hornet and Growler details, long the hallmark of the Detail & Scale Series, comes next. This chapter contains twelve sections covering the cockpit, including ejection seats and aircrew flight gear, windscreen and canopy, fuselage, landing gear, wings, tails, engines, ordnance, sensors, fuel tanks, refueling pods, the EA-18G’s electronic warfare equipment, and more. Complete coverage of almost every square inch of the Super Hornet and Growler is provided in this section through more than 200 high-resolution photographs and illustrations, most of which were taken by the two authors. As with all Detail & Scale books, the final chapter covers scale models of the Super Hornet and Growler. When the first edition was released in 2004, there were very few kits available of what was then a new aircraft. Today, there exists a far more diverse field of F/A-18E/F and EA-18G kits. The standard modeling scales of 1/144th, 1/72nd, 1/48th, and 1/32nd are treated as separate sections and the available kits are reviewed. This section also features photos of built Super Hornet and Growler kits from a number of accomplished model builders. F/A-18E & F/A-18F Super Hornet in Detail & Scale: Also Includes the EA-18G Growler, is an extensively detailed look at the U. S. Navy’s premier combat aircraft with the most up-to-date information on the Super Hornet and Growler available. This digital version features 108 pages, 292 high-resolution color photographs, and five illustrations.

The story of how the Super Hornet and Growler came into existence is the focus of this new book. The F/A-18E/F has its roots in the late-1980s Hornet 2000 study, which itself evaluated ways to enhance the range, payload, and bring-back capability of the existing F/A-18 Hornet. Through a series of trade-offs imposed by largely limited defense funds, what emerged was a versatile, affordable strike fighter aircraft that has served the Navy well since its fleet introduction in 2002. The Growler has a similar history. Itself an offshoot of the Super Hornet program, the EA-18G brought many of the Super Hornet's attributes - speed, maneuverability, self-defense capability, and advanced systems - into the electronic attack community and is now posed to assume all such missions from the venerable EA-6B Prowler within the next few years. The book draws on interviews with many of the key players in the F/A-18E/F and EA-18G program and on many press reports of the day to tell the story of how these aircraft were designed, developed, and deployed. Moreover, the book provides insights into the problems faced by these key individuals as well as the management methods they used to produce aircraft that have consistently been delivered at or ahead of schedule, under cost, and under weight.

A fresh, unique insider’s view of what it’s like to be a woman aviator in today’s US Navy—from pedicures to parachutes, friendship to firefights. Caroline Johnson was an unlikely aviation candidate. A tall blonde debutante from Colorado, she could have just as easily gone into fashion or filmmaking, and yet she went on to become an F/A-18 Super Hornet Weapons System Officer. She was one of the first women to fly a combat mission over Iraq since 2011, and one of the first women to drop bombs on ISIS. Jet Girl tells the remarkable story of the women fighting at the forefront in a military system that allows them to reach the highest peaks, and yet is in many respects still a fraternity. Johnson offers an insider’s view on the fascinating, thrilling, dangerous and, at times, glamorous world of being a naval aviator. This is a coming-of age story about a young college-aged woman who draws strength from a tight knit group of friends, called the Jet Girls, and struggles with all the ordinary problems of life: love, work, catty housewives, father figures, make-up, wardrobe, not to mention being put into harm’s way daily with terrorist groups such as ISIS and world powers such as Russia and Iran. Some of the most memorable parts of the book are about real life in training, in the air and in combat—how do you deal with having to pee in a cockpit the size of a bumper car going 600 miles an hour? Not just a memoir, this book also aims to change the conversation and to inspire and attract the next generation of men and women who are tempted to explore a life of adventure and service.

Jet Fighters Of The U S Navy And Marine Corps Part 2 written by Bert Kinzey and has been published by Detail & Scale this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-04 with History categories.

Jet Fighters of the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps is a two-book series that describes the entire history of American Naval jet fighters, from the very beginning when many thought that the onset of military jets would mean the end of naval carrier-based aviation, to today when the fifth-generation stealth jet F-35B/C Lightning II has begun its service with both the Navy and Marine Corps. Both volumes cover every jet fighter that has ever been produced for the Navy and the Marine Corps, and not only those that were used operationally, but even the aircraft that only made it to the flying prototype stage are included. Also covered by the books is the history of how American aircraft carriers evolved from the ESSEX class ships that won World War II with propeller-driven aircraft to the mighty supercarriers of today. In the first book, Jet Fighters of the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps, Part 1: The First Ten Years, author Bert Kinzey described the first and second generation jet fighters that came on the scene at the end of or shortly after World War II. These jet fighters made their first flights between 1945 and 1954, and the book covers fifteen aircraft arranged according to the chronological order of the date of their first flight. This concluding volume, Jet Fighters of the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps, Part 2: Mach 1 and Beyond, resumes where Part 1 left off and continues to the present day. The evolution of the United States Navy’s aircraft carriers is again picked up and covers continued modifications to the ESSEX and MIDWAY class carriers and to the initial super carriers of the FORRESTAL CLASS. The follow-on super carriers of the KITTY HAWK, NIMITZ, and FORD classes are discussed to highlight the continued evolution required to handle the ever increasingly sophisticated jet aircraft that have achieved operational status. The thirteen aircraft covered in Part 2 begin with the Chance Vought F-8 Crusader, the first Navy and Marine jet fighter able to routinely exceed supersonic speeds, and which brought U. S. Navy jet fighters on par in performance to their land-based counterparts. As with Part 1, the scope of this publication includes all Navy jet fighter designs that reached at least the flying prototype stage, so the F11F-1F Super Tiger, F5D Skylancer, and XF8U-3 Crusader III, each of which was developed from an existing aircraft design, are all covered. Also included is the F-111B, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara’s vision of a be all, do all aircraft for both the Navy and the Air Force. It was a concept which, at that time, was simply not possible to achieve. Of all the Navy and Marine jet fighters that became operational during the first ten years, only three, the F9F Panther, F2H Banshee, and F3D Skyknight, ever engaged in combat. But the world was changing, and all of the fighters covered here in Part 2 that became operational with fleet squadrons saw, and continue to see, plenty of combat around the world. The Navy and Marines have also operated three different types of jet fighters, as well as other types of aircraft, strictly in a training role, that of serving as adversary aircraft in dissimilar air combat training (DACT). These include the American built F-5E/F/N Tiger II and F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the Israeli F-21A Kfir. These fighters are also included in this publication. As this book is published in 2020, the primary jet fighter for the U. S. Navy is the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and the F-35C is just beginning to enter the inventory with the Navy’s first fleet squadron being declared operational in 2019. Meanwhile F-35Bs are already serving in considerable numbers with the Marines as they replace both the AV-8B Harrier II and eventually some F/A-18 Hornets. These aircraft are covered in the final chapters, bringing the reader up to date on the newest multi-role jet fighters now serving in U. S. Naval and Marine Aviation. Together, Jet Fighters of the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps, Part 1 and Part 2, cover every jet fighter that has been designed, built, and at least reached the flying prototype stage since the FH-1 Phantom first took to the air in 1945. The remarkable history of these aircraft, the problems faced, the solutions developed, and the successes achieved provide incredibly interesting reading for the aviation enthusiast. But it is not just about each individual aircraft that took to the air. Equally as important and fascinating are the multitude of engineering challenges, developing technologies, the ever-changing roles and requirements, and the tactics and strategies used in deploying these aircraft with their increasing capabilities as they fulfilled their roles in defending the national interests of the United States around the world. The digital edition of Jet Fighters of the U. S. Navy and Marine Corps, Part 2: Mach 1 and Beyond features 207 pages, 213 high resolution photographs, 193 of which are in color, and 10 full color profiles.

F 14 Tomcat In Detail Scale written by Haagen Klaus and has been published by Detail & Scale this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-20 with History categories.

The Grumman F-14 Tomcat is an iconic aircraft. Its historical significance, celebrity, distinctive appearance, and combat record set the Tomcat apart from many of its contemporaries. The U. S. Navy operated the F-14 for thirty-six years, and when it was retired in 2006, the Tomcat had never been more capable, relevant, or effective. F-14 Tomcat in Detail & Scale is an all-new book about one of the most well known and popular military aircraft of all time. This profusely illustrated book is written by Haagen Klaus, who previously co-authored F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in Detail & Scale. The author put together a team of expert contributors who worked with him to make this the most accurate and in-depth book possible on the Tomcat. Among these are people who flew and maintained the F-14 and others who worked at Grumman during the time when the Tomcat was designed and built. In addition to these experts, many aviation photographers have contributed scores of general and detail photographs that provide extensive coverage. Detail & Scale published two earlier books on the F-14 in 1979 and 1982. It has since published three comprehensive works on the colors and markings of the Tomcat, and this new book completes the coverage of the F-14 with all the hallmarks of the Detail & Scale Series of books. The book begins with two chapters that look at the Tomcat’s history. The first covers the developmental history, while the second looks at the operational history, including the Tomcat’s extensive use in combat. The third chapter provides an in-depth coverage of the specific variants of the F-14 that were produced, as well as a detailed look at the various systems and how they evolved during the operational life of the Tomcat. Numerous photographs supplement an informative text in each of these chapters. The focus of the books in the Detail & Scale Series is on the details of the aircraft. Almost all of the 295+ photographs are in color, and 234 detail photographs show every detail of the Tomcat, inside and out. For example, there are 34 cockpit photos showing all of the details and differences in the F-14A, F-14B, and F-14D cockpits, and they are accompanied by detailed captions that explain and point out the features and how the cockpit displays and controls changed from one variant to the next. Details of the fuselage, wings, landing gear, tail, engines, air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, and even the flight gear worn by pilots and RIOs are illustrated with photographs, many of which were taken specifically for this publication. A comprehensive text explains all of the many upgrades made to the Tomcat over the years it was in service in amazing detail, and all of the physical changes are illustrated with photographs which are supplemented with artwork that points out exactly what the changes were and when they were made. For scale modelers, the Modelers Section at the back of the book, one of the hallmarks of the Detail & Scale Series, covers the Tomcat kits that are available from the major manufacturers, and a text reviews the kits, pointing out the plusses and minuses of each.
