Johnstone Country. Family First. For generations, the Jensens have struggled to build their home, their land, and their dreams. But now the family is forced to fight fire with fire, bullet by bullet, blood for blood . . . GOLD MINE MASSACRE For Smoke and his daughter Denny, life on the Sugarloaf Ranch is more valuable than all the gold in the world. Which works out fine, since all the gold mines in Big Rock were squeezed dry years ago. Even so, that won’t stop a pair of businessmen from the East from trying to squeeze out a little more. One of them has developed a newfangled method for extracting gold—something called “hydraulics” and they’ve bought up all the old mines to do it. The other is the son of legendary gunfighter Frank Morgan, and Denny thinks he’s awfully handsome. Smoke isn’t sure what to think of these would-be gold diggers. Especially when the handsome one triggers a rivalry with Denny’s off-and-on beau, a deputy U.S. marshal. And then they hires a small army of gunfighters to protect their mines from sabotage . . . The Jensons can smell trouble brewing from a mile away. And when it involves gold, guns, and love, it’s more than just trouble. It’s a massacre waiting to happen . . . Live Free. Read Hard.

In 1912 a thin line of Russian soldiers, confronted by a large crowd of gold miners on strike for several weeks, reacted with fear and anger. At their officers’ orders, they opened fire, shooting five hundred unarmed protestors. The event reverberated across Russia. The Lena goldfields massacre can be viewed from several distinct viewpoints, each presenting a contrasting story. Author Michael Melancon avoids prematurely picking a “right” way of looking at the massacre. Instead, he explores all aspects of the incident, from the despair of the miners at the poor conditions they faced, to the calculations and priorities of the mining entrepreneurs and state officials, and even the rationale of the soldiers who pulled the triggers. The Lena Goldfields Massacre and the Crisis of the Late Tsarist State will appeal to anyone interested in labor relations, in revolutionary movements, and in transitions associated with modernization. Its comparative framework will be helpful for generalists and Europeanists. It will also provide food for thought for those who seek a carefully researched examination of Russian society during the early twentieth century.

"Massacre Gold" is a fictionalized story based upon the massacre, in Arizona, of the Peralta Miners; and the origin of the Lost Dutchman Mine's gold. In 1848, in the Office of El Presidente Santa Anna of Mexico, a deal was struck between El Presidente and Don Miguel Peralta of Arizpe, Sonora. The agreement provided funding and military support for a large expedition to proceed northward into the area of Sonora, which eventually would become southern Arizona. The expedition's mission: to retrieve as much remaining gold from the old mines in the north as possible, before negotiations regarding the Gadsden Purchase could be completed. These mines were originally controlled by Spanish Missionaries over a hundred years earlier; and later, by the Peralta family under a younger Don Miguel Peralta. The trek through the desert was long and difficult. The event is portrayed from the positions of both the Peralta Miners as well as the Yavapai and Apache tribes. The lives of the personnel of this enterprise became interwoven as the huge caravan moved toward the old mines. Don Miguel Peralta - the Sonoran aristocrat, Manuel Peralta - his son, El Capitan Garces - Captain of Cavalry, U-Day-Ah - the Yavapai girl, O-hi-Cama - the Yavapai warrior, Nann-Chaddi - the Yavapai chieftain, and Lieutenant Diego DaVia - the very capable soldier; all move inevitably toward the final tragedy at "Massacre Ground." The story continues to this day in the legend of the Lost Dutchman Mine in Arizona. And yes, I have been there.

Dying For Gold written by Lee Selleck and has been published by Toronto, Ont. : HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Giant Mine Strike, Yellowknife, N.W.T., 1992 categories.

On September 18, 1992, nine men died in the labyrinthine drifts of Yellowknife's Giant gold mine, after four months of a painful labor dispute. Six of the dead were Giant employees; three were "replacement workers". All were husbands, fathers, sons, lovers, friends, firefighters, draegermen. Their deaths brought squadrons of police, investigators and the eye of the national media to Yellowknife. Roger Warren, a longtime Giant employee, was convicted on nine counts of second-degree murder. A multi-million dollar civil suit is ongoing. Those were the headlines reported in the nightly news, but as Yellowknife journalists Lee Selleck and Francis Thompson note, the real story of the Giant Mine tragedy was, up until now, untold. In a meticulously researched expose that unfolds like a compelling murder mystery, the two journalists peet back the complex layers of the events leading up to the unraveling of a close-knit community. They reveal a large and fascinating cast of players: Peggy Witte, the mine owner, whose belligerent strikebreaking tactics were unprecedented in the Canadian mining industry; an inexperienced and stubborn union whose members sometimes resorted to criminal acts; a paramilitary corporate security force; police who often seemed to act as agents of Giant Mine management; and an absentee federal government with close ties to the mining industry. They take you into the lives of miners and their families struggling to come to grips with issues that pitted relatives and friends against each other and saw homes, businesses, dignity and eventually, lives, tumble into the black abyss. And, in a mesmerizing recreation of the mine blast and subsequent trial of Roger Warren, theyraise serious and far-reaching doubts about the guilt of the man convicted of killing his co-workers. Utterly compelling and controversial, Dying for Gold is a masterful work of investigative journalism.
