Nowadays, eating vegetables is essential for our health. Now, imagine growing your vegetables! The question now is, where to start? Most vegetables are acceptable to be sown directly into the ground. A couple of days before you should plant the seeds, you water the area you intend to plant. The rule of thumb is that the soil should be damp, not soggy. If the sources you have bought are on seed tapes (these are spaced correctly for sprouting on a biodegradable video), there is no need to space out the seeds manually; plant the seed tapes. Great Idea! Primarily, it would help if you found an appropriate place where you can grow your vegetables. It is suggested that we plant our vegetable garden on the balcony of our house or a small backyard. If that space is unavailable for you, try looking at the community garden near your home. Second, prepare the soil so that it will be soft and comfortable to dig. Water the soil until it becomes very wet and keep watering until the ground can support itself for a few days without watering. In this book, I will give you simple steps on how to raise your vegetables. This book covers:  Preparation of Working Land with Lots of Water Points  Planning  Cultivation of Soil  Seeding  What Plants We Want to Grow  Fertilization of Soil  Following Growth  Pest Control  Disease Control  Watering And much more! If you get seedlings that are not in an individual-contained area, you will need to separate them. Be very tender when you do this as you do not want to break the fine roots on them but, at the same time, work quickly because of the root shock issue. Place the plants in the prepared earlier holes and gently water them and apply organic liquid fertilizer. Ensure you keep the water up to them for a couple of days by watering every day before you start spacing out the water to every two or three days. The plants need to establish themselves in their new home and get over any shock they may have endured. So, let's get started! Grab a copy and learn more.

From Canada’s #1 garden team, a guide that makes growing your own fruits, vegetables and herbs simple, bountiful and fun Nothing beats the taste and smell of a tomato freshly picked from your own garden. And there’s a certain pride in knowing that the salad you just served—fresh strawberries and all—was harvested entirely from your backyard. But growing your own fruits, vegetables and herbs can be time-consuming and feel overwhelmingly complicated. Your eagerness to get growing in the spring can be rained out by seemingly endless seedlings and seed packs at your garden centre, all with cryptic planting instructions that leave you with withered plants rather than crunchy carrots. But it doesn’t need to be that way! Frankie Flowers has decades of experience helping thumbs of all colours turn barren patches and empty pots into bountiful harvests—and he can help you do the same. Food to Grow simplifies every growing decision you’ll need to make. Frankie helps you evaluate your space, decide just how much time you want to invest and then make the smartest choices about which plants will give you the best bang for your buck. He guides you through the entire growing season from prepping and planning, to planting, weeding and harvesting (the best part!), and he shares not just which veggies, fruits and herbs have become Frankie’s Favourites, but also which plants just aren’t worth the effort. Loaded with gorgeous photography that will have you desperate to get digging, Food to Grow includes a detailed A–Z index of over fifty of Canada’s most popular home crops. Whether you have space for a few pots or a back forty, Frankie Flowers will help you make your dream of home-grown treats a fun and tasty reality.

With this accessible and inspirational guide, Nicole aims to return the kitchen garden to its rightful place just outside of every backdoor. Learn the art of kitchen gardening as you discover: What characteristics all kitchen gardens have in common How to design and install gorgeous kitchen garden beds using metal, wood, or stone Why raised beds mean reduced maintenance What crops are best for your kitchen garden A planting, tending, and harvesting plan developed by a pro Season-by-season growing guides It's time to join the Kitchen Garden Revival and start growing your own delicious, organic food.
