Dit kluwen ontwarren vraagt veel tijd en geduld. Er is behoefte aan ‘algemene psychiaters’. Psychiaters die voeling hebben met algemene geneeskunde, neurologie, klinische psychiatrie en psychotherapie. En die sociale interesse hebben en ook bereid zijn om hun patiënten te verdedigen in de forensische psychiatrie en bij vragen naar een levenseinde. Dit alles houdt ook creativiteit in, met pillen en/of praten en de moed om zogenaamde zekere paden te verlaten, eventuele verkeerde inschattingen te erkennen, op zoektocht te gaan naar andere wegen, de cliënt ten bate.
