This volume is the first to explore the formal linguistic expressions of emotions at different levels of linguistic complexity. Research on the language-emotion interface has to date concentrated primarily on the conceptual dimension of emotions as expressed via language, with semantic and pragmatic studies dominating the field. The chapters in this book, in contrast, bring together work from different linguistic frameworks: generative syntax, functional and usage-based linguistics, formal semantics and pragmatics, and experimental phonology. The volume contributes to the growing field of research that explores the interaction between linguistic expressions and the 'expressive dimension' of language, and will be of interest to linguists from a range of theoretical backgrounds who are interested in the language-emotion interface.

Religious and moral pluralism is intrinsic to present-day society. Pluralism includes both the diversity of religions and worldviews (external pluralism), and the diverse conceptions of a transcendent reality and a good life within religions (internal pluralism). This book deals with the challenges this pluralism poses for Christian adult education. The goal is to form a clearer picture of how educators deal with pluralism in their practice. The premise is that this is particularly evident in the goal orientations and the educational methods they choose. This book presents a typology of religio-moral education which is empirically tested in the Catholic context in the Netherlands. It explores the goal orientations and methods of religious and moral educators, and examines the crucial relation between them. The educator's choices are also evaluated in the light of a considered approach to pluralism. Isolde Driesen (1971) worked as a junior researcher at the Faculty of Theology of the Radboud University Nijmegen on the research-project Pluralism and Christian adult education.

The author studied the culture, particularly social life, of a tribal society of the Kabar plain in the inland area of the Kepala Burung (Vogelkop) in Irian Jaya. The focus was on constants, variants, and changes in the field of kinship and religion. Ch. 1 gives a historical survey of the Kabar plain. Ch. 2 pays attention to environment and demographic data. To determine the influences of processes of state formation in the East Indonesian archipelago on theKebar, chapters 3 and 4 look at the intra- and intertribal (kinship) relations, including changes occurring in them, and the Kebar man- and worldview. Ch. 5 discusses the connection between social historical and ecological influences on the culture of the Kebar, in particular in the fields of kinship and religion.

De werken van deze belangrijke geleerde werden kortelings opnieuw uitgegeven. Vit het voorwoord van de studie kan men opmaken hoe de leraar inspirerend op de promovendus heeft gewerkt. Het is een belangrijk, zuiver doordacht en met enthousiasme geschreven boek geworden.
