Newly translated from its original 16th Century French, "A Light to My Path: An Exposition of the Ten Commandments" is a collection of twelve sermons that Reformer John Calvin preached on the Ten Commandments. Warm and earnest in tone, showing profound scholarship yet with an emphasis on practical application, Calvin's sermons carry believers to the heart of the commands of God. His sermons unite a theological depth with a down-to-earth, easily-understandable style, offering the modern reader an easy and enjoyable access to the riches of Calvin's theology and understanding of the Scriptures. Preached in Geneva during the months of June and July of the year 1555, Calvin's sermons on the Decalogue form part of a larger expositional series that he undertook through the book of Deuteronomy. The sermons as a whole were afterward published in book form by Thomas Courteau under the title "Sermons de M. Jean Calvin sur le v. livre de Moyse nommé Deuteronome" (Geneva, 1567). "A Light to My Path" is sure to be an edifying, enlightening, and convicting read for both new believers and theologians alike.

Calvin’s Old Testament Exegesis in Context Calvin in Context Jean Calvin, the reformer and pastor of Geneva, is renowned as one of the most important figures in what came to be known as the Reformed and Presbyterian branch of the Protestant Reformation. Perhaps less well known is the fact that he devoted the bulk of his creative efforts to prea- ing, lecturing, and commenting on the Bible. Calvin envisioned a program of reform in Geneva in which the Bible, properly interpreted, would shape the minds and morals of the Genevan populace. The people of Geneva, whom Calvin viewed as a precise spiritual reincarnation of the “sti- necked, intractable Hebrews” of the Old Testament, were in need of some serious remedial education, and it was his duty as their chief minister to provide the requisite training in doctrine and godliness. Despite Calvin’s emphasis on preaching and producing biblical c- mentaries, however, scholars have often portrayed him as “a man of one 1 book”—that one book being the Institutes of the Christian Religion. In so - ing, they have produced a one-dimensional and consequently incomplete view of Calvin’s theological work. Scholars have tended to study Calvin’s theology exclusively from the perspective of his Institutes, without taking into account his work of biblical interpretation and preaching, or the re- tionship of those efforts to the Institutes.

A History of the Ten Commandments with a Modern Moral Code traces the way the Ten Commandments God gave to Moses on Mt. Sinai in the 13th century BC changed through the ages, analyzing the seventeen versions of the Decalogue which now exist. The author also presents a moral code which is related to the Mosaic Decalogue but is not religious and should, therefore, be acceptable for public display in the secular world. The book features photographs of plaques depicting the Ten Commandments, with interesting eleven commandment variations, on display throughout the country. Written for a broad audience ranging from Sunday school teachers and scholars to the average reader, this book is essential reading for those seeking to discover information about the greatest document in human history and wanting to learn about a new moral standard desperately needed in the ethically corrupt world of the present day.
