The field of special needs education is well established, and although it continues to develop in exciting and controversial ways, involving some of education's leading thinkers, many people feel it is lacking a coherent theoretical analysis of its own. Students and practitioners, looking for some solid theory to reinforce their own study or practice, commonly have to 'borrow' from other disciplines, such as psychology and sociology, since there has been no attempt to provide a theoretical foundation for the special needs community. This book does exactly that, bringing together contributions from key names in the field from UK and beyond. The book will establish itself as an essential text for students and teachers, as well as all those involved in special needs across the social sciences.

The multifaceted work of the late Susan Leigh Star is explored through a selection of her writings and essays by friends and colleagues. Susan Leigh Star (1954–2010) was one of the most influential science studies scholars of the last several decades. In her work, Star highlighted the messy practices of discovering science, asking hard questions about the marginalizing as well as the liberating powers of science and technology. In the landmark work Sorting Things Out, Star and Geoffrey Bowker revealed the social and ethical histories that are deeply embedded in classification systems. Star's most celebrated concept was the notion of boundary objects: representational forms—things or theories—that can be shared between different communities, with each holding its own understanding of the representation. Unfortunately, Leigh was unable to complete a work on the poetics of infrastructure that further developed the full range of her work. This volume collects articles by Star that set out some of her thinking on boundary objects, marginality, and infrastructure, together with essays by friends and colleagues from a range of disciplines—from philosophy of science to organization science—that testify to the wide-ranging influence of Star's work. Contributors Ellen Balka, Eevi E. Beck, Dick Boland, Geoffrey C. Bowker, Janet Ceja Alcalá, Adele E. Clarke, Les Gasser, James R. Griesemer, Gail Hornstein, John Leslie King, Cheris Kramarae, Maria Puig de la Bellacasa, Karen Ruhleder, Kjeld Schmidt, Brian Cantwell Smith, Susan Leigh Star, Anselm L. Education And The Political written by Tomasz Szkudlarek and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-19 with Education categories.

The essays in this collection address the relation between education and politics in new ways. Rather than understanding education simply as the object of political decision-making, or as preparation for politics, the authors of this volume see education as implicated in social conflicts and in the political processes that produce and change social structures. Education, then, is a practice that reconfigures the relations between subjectivities and the political. The collection focuses on several critical cases and theoretical debates where the relation between education and politics demands new articulations. It explores the potential of theoretical languages proposed by Rancière, Laclau, Derrida, Mouffe, Bakhtin, and other thinkers whose work has not yet been fully recognized in its pedagogical meaning.

Art And Poetry written by Jacques Maritain and has been published by Open Road Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-22 with Art categories.

The French philosopher’s treatise on the nature of art and poetry includes enlightening critiques of major painters and dialogues with notable writers. Originally published in 1935 with the title Frontières de la Poésie, this work by Jacques Maritain explores the nature and subjectivity of art and poetry. As a philosopher, Maritain attempts to define the two concepts, describing them as virtuous, being primarily concerned with beauty. Rather than focusing on aesthetic theory, Maritain examines his ideas at a more tangible level, including a discussion of how art and poetry are produced. Art and Poetry further develops the principles established in Maritain’s earlier work, Art and Scholasticism, which has deeply influenced contemporary artists. Those concepts are employed here to illuminate the creative works of such diverse artists as Georges Rouault, Marc Chagall, Gino Severini, and Arthur Lourié. Maritain also relates fascinating dialogues with notable authors such as André Gide, Jean Cocteau, and others.
