"If you loved Funky Business as much as I did, you''ll love Karaoke Capitalism. Weird? Most certainly. Different? Most definitely. But, if you want to re-imagine your organization and your career it''s a thought-provoking place to start." Tom Peters The creators will thrive at the expense of the copycats. Express yourself. In the long-awaited follow up to their internationally acclaimed Funky Business, Kjell Nordström and Jonas RidderstrSle have delivered a thought-provoking, workout for the wits in Karaoke Capitalism. A book that challenges individuals, businesses and nations to create originals rather than cover versions. Management guru Tom Peters said "If you loved Funky Business as much as I did, you¿ll love Karaoke Capitalism." The karaoke economy is dominated by individuals with endless choice. The trouble for business is that the karaoke club is also home to institutionalized imitation. Copy-cats abound. Only imagination and innovation place societies, organizations and individuals center-stage. Karaoke Capitalism is a call to arms. Kjell and Jonas are rebels with a cause. With their unorthodox combination of academic rigor, forceful logic and funky free-thinking they once again re-write the rules for revolutionaries. This is a true work-out for the wits. The book teaches us how to successfully compete on competencies, create capitalism with character, and how to have a great life while also making a living. It is required reading for all those wanting to be a first-rate version of themselves rather than a second-rate version of someone else. Karaoke Capitalism - create or cover? Karaoke Capitalism is a hitchhiker¿s guide to the galaxies of business. and practice is that business schools, benchmarking and best practice have transformed the entire world of commerce into a super-group of karaoke copying companies. And imitating someone else will never get you to the top ¿ merely to the middle. Our societies are shaped by the glorious trio of technologies, institutions and galaxies of commerce. It is a book about people ¿ management for mankind ¿ the individuals prepared to grasp the microphone and express themselves. You have the rights. Now, you must learn to live them. The karaoke reality is a cosmopolitan club with endless individual choice but also a paltry place for institutionalized imitation. The dirty little secret of management theory values. Changes have now made abnormal the new normal. The bubble economy has given way to the double economy. Forget about appealing to the average. Success is a question of exploring the extremes. Corporations are no longer in control. Modern companies are facing the prospects of a two-front war: held hostage by talent and under siege by consumers. The winners know that wealth is created with wisdom, but to remain competitive they are forced to create knowledge networks that pose new and fundamentally different demands on the organization. In a world of economic Darwinism, survival is a question of being fit or sexy ¿ competing on models and moods. Fitness boils down to using market imperfections to your advantage. Masters of mood exploit the imperfections of man by seducing or sedating consumer. Excellent companies re-invent innovation and re-energize the corporation. To develop the character of capitalism we have to accept individual responsibility. Look inside. Do you want to be a first-rate version of yourself or a second-rate version of someone else? "The Swedish economists, who shot to the top of the management guru charts in 2001 with their era-defining book, Funky Business, are back" Director magazine Kjell Nordstrom & Jonas RidderstraleDr. Jonas Ridderstrale and Dr. Kjell A Nordström are at the forefront of the new generation of business gurus. Tom Peters "It''s the best un-businesslike business book I have ever read ....Funky Business is less of a business handbook and more of a religion. It should be treated like a chain letter - read it and pass it onto 10 other people." (or even better, tell 10 other people to buy it) . - Human Resources "Funky Business is a better book than most novels but it is not for bedtime. It will jerk you out of your complacency and make you question your very existence. It will transform your brain." - Customer Management "Funky Business is rigorously researched, witty and intelligent, and overflows with provocative ideas." Business Voice "Funky Business - the groovy bible of modern business philosophy" - Red magazine

"Covering a huge terrain - from the impact of high tech to the ever-widening gaps between the haves and the have-nots, and with references from Adam Smith to Janis Joplin - the authors bring into focus the challenges of business leadership in a world increasingly defined by individualism. "Karaoke" capitalism refers to the philosophy of imitation, engrained into the corporate mindset by such popular concepts as benchmarking and best practice. For Ridderstrale and Nordstrom, the only way to survive is to chuck convention, to embrace your company's individual personality and promote it through everything you do, constantly honing what works and abandoning what doesn't. Ultimately, the authors argue that armed with imagination it is possible to sustain profitable businesses while contributing to the well-being of customers, communities, and the society at large."--BOOK JACKET.

More and more people feel so overwhelmed by the trouble the world is facing today that they don't know where to begin - so they do the worst thing of all - NOTHING. We have become our own worst nightmare. The good news is that you can save the world - and prosper - just by being you. It is so simple. Stop complaining about how bad it is and start utilizing your circle of influence instead. It is not important how much you do. What matters is that you do the best you can with what you have. One person, one nation, or even one continent cannot solve the serious trouble that the world is facing today. We all must pull together - all 6.8 billion of us. It seems as if the world is spinning out of control with financial crises, climate change, and wars. Everywhere you look, something crazy is going on. We have become obese, overloaded with information, and most of us have lost track of why we are even here. How can we regain a meaningful life? That is the core question that Sebastian Nybo examines in this book, and his answer is as simple as it is efficient: Just be true to what you know is right. He believes that we all have an ethical awareness encoded in our DNA and that this innate ability can serve as a behavioral compass in our everyday lives. The key is to understand that you have to believe it in order to see it. Sebastian Nybo has included a series of interviews that he conducted with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, who is an outstanding example of someone who has really tried to do the best he can with what he has - regardless of the odds. Sebastian Nybo has woven together the wisdom and spirituality of His Holiness with his own knowledge of human evolution and positive psychology, and thereby created a powerful antidote to the stress of modern life.

Insulated from the dust, noise, and crowds churning outside, China's luxury hotels are staging areas for the new economic and political landscape of the country. These hotels, along with other emerging service businesses, offer an important, new source of employment for millions of workers, but also bring to light levels of inequality that surpass most developed nations. Examining how gender enables the globalization of markets and how emerging forms of service labor are changing women's social status in China, Markets and Bodies reveals the forms of social inequality produced by shifts in the economy. No longer working for the common good as defined by the socialist state, service workers are catering to the individual desires of consumers. This economic transition ultimately affords a unique opportunity to investigate the possibilities and current limits for better working conditions for the young women who are enabling the development of capitalism in China.

Little has been written about the colonists sent by Spanish authorities to settle the northern frontier of New Spain, to stake Spain's claim and serve as a buffer against encroaching French explorers. "Los Paisanos," they were called--simple country people who lived by their own labor, isolated, threatened by hostile Indians, and restricted by law from seeking opportunity elsewhere. They built their homes, worked their fields, and became permanent residents.

Pathology Of The Capitalist Spirit written by D. Levine and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-05 with Political Science categories.

Pathology of the Capitalist Spirit is about capital and about the economic system that bears its name. In this book, Levine argues that our pursuit of ever-more wealth in the form of capital expresses our dissatisfaction with the world we live in, with what we have and what we don't have. Capital embodies our hope for something different. Because capital embodies this hope, it has become desire's object. In his study of capitalism, Levine explores the meaning of capital as a social reality connected to fundamental human aspirations. The link between capital and the pursuit of a hoped-for state is especially important in light of the stubborn insistence on the part of its critics that capitalism exists to serve the material interests of those whose vocation is to own capital. This misunderstanding ignores what is essential about capital, which is its link not to interests but to hope, especially the hope that by accumulating capital the individual can achieve an attachment to the good. It is this hope that blocks tolerance of any notion that there is something unfair in the capitalist's acquisition of wealth and that fairness can be achieved through its redistribution to others. It is also this hope that animates the capitalist system as a whole. And in that sense, this hope is the spirit of capitalism. To develop this theme, Levine calls on the ideas and writings of major theorists involved with understanding modernity and capitalism: Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Emile Durkheim, and Joseph Schumpeter.
