In 1942, Kate Denis drowned herself in a stinking pond of run-off from a leather tannery in Rushden, England. Or so her daughter Marie was told. According to the story, Kate found herself pregnant by an American GI while her husband was fighting in Africa. In despair, she killed herself. All through her childhood, merciless schoolmates taunted Marie as the daughter of a whore. But Marie could never quite believe the stories. The details didn't make sense. Who would drown herself in such a place, leaving her other baby unprotected in a pram all alone? Marie hated the story, and hated that her mother had been buried in a pauper's grave. It was Marie's dying wish that a headstone be laid on her mother's grave-and that the truth of her death be discovered. Fifty years after Kate's death, Marie's husband Phil returns to England to discover the truth. Kate's Legacy is a war story, a love story, and a story of redemption.

The first book-length investigation of a pioneering English professor and theorist at Vassar College, A Feminist Legacy: The Rhetoric and Pedagogy of Gertrude Buck explores Buck’s contribution to the fields of education and rhetoric during the Progressive Era. By contextualizing Buck’s academic and theoretical work within the rise of women’s educational institutions like Vassar College, the social and political movement toward suffrage, and Buck’s own egalitarian political and social ideals, Suzanne Bordelon offers a scholarly and well-informed treatment of Buck’s achievements that elucidates the historical and contemporary impact of her work and life. Bordelon argues that while Buck did not call herself a feminist, she embodied feminist ideals by demanding the full participation of her female students and by challenging power imbalances at every academic, social, and political level. A Feminist Legacy reveals that Vassar College is an undervalued but significant site in the history of women’s argumentation and pedagogy. Drawing on a rich variety of archival sources, including previously unexamined primary material, A Feminist Legacy traces the beginnings of feminist theories of argumentation and pedagogy and their lasting legacy within the fields of education and rhetoric.

Howard Cox discovered a secluded place in the year 1000 which he named White Valley. White Valley has had its own Royal family who ruled here from the year 1005 to about the year 1322. It was the Whitebeard family that ruled here for generations. There were many intrigues and terrible fights for power and for the money that was in the king's vault in the Mount Fort Castle, that once was built by the citizens for the king and his successors. In addition to all the bloody fights for power, this book is also about King Harold Whitebeard's beautiful daughter, Princess Isabella. She would one day take over from him. King Harold, of course, had wished for a son, but his wife Matilda gave him only one daughter. It so happened that he finally came to worship his beautiful daughter. She was not only beautiful but also very intelligent and very fair and kind. She did have a major impact on White Valley's development and future. It was much bigger than anyone ever could have imagined in advance. This book is also about a lot of other characters that were living in White Valley during her’s and her parent’s time. Isabella lived her life not only in the castle but her tragic experiences also led her to live in other places in White Valley, where she discovered her biggest love. He saved her from the greatest villains in the early 14th century. Her love story played the biggest role in White Valley's political life. One can say that White Valley has been a part of Princess Isabella’s heart and her greatest love and passion. If it had not been for her, White Valley's history would have been very different.
