Su cunado, que es sacerdote, la desea y la persigue continuamente, reteniendola incluso contra su voluntad. Ella se resiste y este tira y afloja entre ambos da origen a un argumento en que la pobre marquesa se ve cada vez mas asediada y su cunado se vuelve cada vez mas insistente. Mas tarde se le une incluso su otro cunado y ambos intentan hacerse con sus favores hasta que, viendose rechazados, deciden matarla. La victima virtuosa esta condenada a morir, igual que ocurre en Justine, pero aqui los malvados tambien reciben su justo castigo por sus fechorias, si bien sus muertes, al final de todo, aparecen mas como un recurso literario que como un desenlace espontaneo de la accion."
