Photonics And Lasers written by Richard S. Quimby and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

An introduction to photonics and lasers that does not rely oncomplex mathematics This book evolved from a series of courses developed by the authorand taught in the areas of lasers and photonics. This thoroughlyclassroom-tested work fills a unique need for students, instructors, and industry professionals in search of anintroductory-level book that covers a wide range of topics in theseareas. Comparable books tend to be aimed either too high or toolow, or they cover only a portion of the topics that are needed fora comprehensive treatment. Photonics and Lasers is divided into four parts: * Propagation of Light * Generation and Detection of Light * Laser Light * Light-Based Communication The author has ensured that complex mathematics does not become anobstacle to understanding key physical concepts. Physical argumentsand explanations are clearly set forth while, at the same time, sufficient mathematical detail is provided for a quantitativeunderstanding. As an additional aid to readers who are learning tothink symbolically, some equations are expressed in words as wellas symbols. Problem sets are provided throughout the book for readers to testtheir knowledge and grasp of key concepts. A solutions manual isalso available for instructors. Finally, the detailed bibliographyleads readers to in-depth explorations of particular topics. The book's topics, lasers and photonics, are often treatedseparately in other texts; however, the author skillfullydemonstrates their natural synergy. Because of the combinedcoverage, this text can be used for a two-semester course or aone-semester course emphasizing either lasers or photonics. This isa perfect introductory textbook for both undergraduate and graduatestudents, additionally serving as a practical reference forengineers in telecommunications, optics, and laser electronics.

Physics Of New Laser Sources written by Neal B. Abraham and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This volume contains the lectures and seminars presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Physics of New Laser Sources", the twelfth course of the Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics, held under the supervision of the Quantum Electronics Division of the European Physical Society. The Institute was held at Centro "I Cappuccini" San Miniato, Tuscany, July 11-21, 1984. The Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics was started in 1970 with the aim of providing instruction for young researchers and advanced students already engaged in the area of quantum electronics or for those wishing to switch into this area after working previously in other areas. From the outset, the School has been under the direction of Prof. F. T. Arecchi, then at the University of Pavia, now at the University of Florence, and Dr. D. Roess of Heraeus, Hanau. In 1981, Prof. H. Walther, University of Munich and Max-Planck Institut fur Quantenoptik joined as co-director. Each year the Directors choose a subj~ct of particular interest, alternating fundamental topics with technological ones, and ask colleagues specifically competent in the chosen areas to take the scientific responsibility for that course.

Electrical Engineering Introduction to Laser Technology, Third Edition Would you like to know how a laser works, and how it can be modified for your own specific tasks? This intuitive third edition-previously published as Understanding Laser Technology, First and Second Editions-introduces engineers, scientists, technicians, and novices alike to the world of modern lasers, without delving into the mathematical details of quantum electronics. It is the only introductory text on the market today that explains the underlying physics and engineering applicable to all lasers. A unique combination of clarity and technical depth, this book begins with an introductory chapter that explains the characteristics and important applications of commercial lasers worldwide. It proceeds with discussions on light and optics, the fundamental elements of lasers, and laser modification. The concluding chapters are composed of a survey of modern lasers, including: Semiconductor lasers Optically pumped solid-state lasers Ion, HeNe, and HeCd lasers Carbon dioxide lasers Excimer lasers (codiscovered by J. J. Ewing) Ultrafast and tunable lasers, OPOs Introduction to Laser Technology, Third Edition is intended for those who are familiar with the principles of electro-optical technology, but possess limited formal training. This comprehensive treatment is essential, one-stop shopping for professionals, students, and non-engineer executives interested in the design, sales, or applications of the laser and electro-optics industry.

In order to develop excellent photonic devices, we have to fully understand the physics behind operations of photonic devices. This book thoroughly teaches the fundamental physics currently applied to the development of photonics devices such as energy bands of semiconductors, optical transitions, optical waveguides, and semiconductor junctions. The book also reviews the characteristics of laser diodes, optical filters, and optical functional devices, which have been developed based on the above physics. These photonic devices have been demonstrated in system applications, and several experimental results are described.

Gaseous Electronics And Gas Lasers written by Blake E. Cherrington and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-06-20 with Science categories.

Gaseous Electronics and Gas Lasers deals with the fundamental principles and methods of analysis of weakly ionized gas discharges and gas lasers. The emphasis is on processes occurring in gas discharges and the analytical methods used to calculate important process rates. Detailed analyses of a variety of gas discharges are presented using atomic, ionic, and gas lasers as primary illustrations. Comprised of 12 chapters, this book begins with some initial categorization of gas discharge species and an overview of their interactions. The discussion then turns to an elementary theory of a gas discharge; inelastic collisions; distribution functions and the Boltzmann equation; and transport coefficients. Subsequent chapters focus on the fluid equations; electron-density decay processes; excited species; atomic neutral gas lasers; molecular gas lasers; and ion lasers. The important electron loss processes that determine the behavior of a plasma when the source and loss terms balance are also examined. This monograph will be of value to graduate students, practitioners, and researchers in the fields of physics and engineering, as well as to professionals interested in working with weakly ionized discharges.
