"Thus, the whole world, today, is acknowledging Asians' success, born out of Disciplined Parenting and Culture of rigorous hard-work. The question is- Are we blunting this edge, that our children have - with ... overt pampering? This is what this book is all about? - About making you a parent ! Because the point is - what is your claim to be the parent of the child? - Donating a sperm or an egg to form the embryo. What is so great about it? Even a syringe today can fertilize the egg (in a test tube baby). Then will the syringe & incubator lay claim to be the parent of the child? I know, I sound ludicrous but then so is the suggestion that one becomes a parent just by siring the baby. Remember, great products are forged in great crucibles. So to forge a successful child, we have to cast the mold i.e. you the parent. So, get ready to face this furnace of a book. BEWARE THIS BOOK IS NOT MEANT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. It is only for the concerned parent, who has what it takes to forge the personality and success of their child. For others there is always fate. - Author

It's never too early to teach children that hitting is unacceptable… Whatever behaviors and habits children think are okay from an early age, they carry with them into adulthood. So if a child gets away with hitting another, whether it's a small slap, a punch, or a kick, they will continue doing this until someone tells them that it is wrong - but remember, it is harder to teach an old dog new tricks. This book aims to show children early on that regardless of the situation, hitting isn't the solution. Slapping Doesn't Solve Problems features a story about two young boys, Christopher and William, in the same class but living completely different lives. Christopher's family is struggling financially, and he chooses to make fun of Sarah, William's little sister, to make himself feel good about his circumstances. This makes Sarah constantly sad, and somewhere along the way, William finds out, and he slaps Christopher in front of everyone. But does this still make it okay? In this book, children will learn: · Why violence isn't a solution to problems · The negative effects of bullying · The importance of working hard to get what you want · And so much more! This children's book is perfect for you if you're looking to teach your child a little about hitting in a way that they will relate to and understand. Something To Cry About written by Susan M. Turner and has been published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-01 with Social Science categories.

Why does our society think it is okay to hit children? Almost everyone thinks it is wrong to abuse a child. But many parents and teachers believe it is okay to spank children, rap their knuckles, slap their faces, pull their hair and yank their arms, as long as the punishment does not result in serious injury or death, and is intended to improve a child’s behaviour. Susan M. Turner explores the historical, psychological, sociological and legal foundations of this belief from a philosophical perspective and argues why it should be abandoned. Something to Cry About presents evidence from recent studies showing that all forms of corporal punishment pose significant risks for children and that none improves behaviour in the long term. Dr. Turner also examines Section 43 of the Canadian Criminal Code — a law that protects those who punish children in their care by allowing them to hit the children as long as such punishment is “reasonable,” even though Canadian case law shows that “reasonable” has included breaking a child’s fingers. Turner presents a comprehensive argument in favour of repeal. In Something to Cry About, Turner takes a definite stand, but does so in a way that invites critical dialogue. Her work is the first to set out the debate over corporal punishment in multidisciplinary terms pertinent to Canadian society. She brings together in one place a wide variety of thought and data which can be consulted by all Canadians concerned with the welfare of children.

Wisdom Of Our Fathers written by Tim Russert and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-23 with Family & Relationships categories.

What does it really mean to be a good father? What did your father tell you, that has stayed with you throughout your life? Was there a lesson from him, a story, or a moment that helped to make you who you are? Is there a special memory that makes you smile when you least expect it? After the publication of Tim Russert’s number one New York Times bestseller about his father, Big Russ & Me, he received an avalanche of letters from daughters and sons who wanted to tell him about their own fathers, most of whom were not superdads or heroes but ordinary men who were remembered and cherished for some of their best moments–of advice, tenderness, strength, honor, discipline, and occasional eccentricity. Most of these daughters and sons were eager to express the gratitude they had carried with them through the years. Others wanted to share lessons and memories and, most important, pass them down to their own children. This book is for all fathers, young or old, who can learn from the men in these pages how to get it right, and to understand that sometimes it is the little gestures that can make the big difference for your child. For some in this book, the appreciation came later than they would have liked. But as Wisdom of Our Fathers reminds us, it is never too late to embrace it. From the father who coached his daughter in sports (and life), attending every meet, game, performance, and tournament, to the daughter who, after a fifteen-year estrangement, learned to make peace with her difficult father just before he died, to the son who came, at last, to appreciate the silent way his father could show affection, Wisdom of Our Fathers shares rewarding lessons, immeasurable gifts, and lasting values. Heartfelt, humorous, engaging, irresistibly readable, and bound to bring back memories of unforgettable moments with our own fathers, Tim Russert’s new book is not only a fitting companion to his own marvelous memoir, but also a celebration of the positive qualities passed down from generation to generation.
