"The Exodus: Leaving Egypt Behind" is a Bible Study book written in a simple language that is easy to understand. It is complete with question and answer sections per chapter. It is written in "blocks of time," so when the reader completes the study, he or she has a good idea of where it fits into the Bible chronologically, as well as to know the story itself. This story begins with Abraham, because he was chosen by God to depart from his ancestor's land called UR of the Chaldeans, and leave his family as well. He was to begin life anew in a land called Canaan. This multigenerational story encompasses parts of the first six chapters of the Bible and allows the reader to follow those who became the Israelites along the path which lead them to the Promise land. In the account of the Exodus it is important to know who the slaves were in Egypt, how and why they arrived there, and what happened to make them want to leave. Included therein are introductions to Bible Greats such as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and his brother Aaron, and finally Joshua and Caleb as they led the Israelites the final steps of the way into the Promise Land. You will know where the term "Israelites" stemmed from, and know how and why they became the Tribes of Israel. Also as part of the text is the story of Joseph being sold by his very own brothers into slavery in Egypt. You will see how Joseph becomes their liberator from the horrendous famine during that time in history. Learn about the celebration called Passover, and the plagues sent upon Egypt in attempts to get Pharaoh to "Let My People Go." There were the laws to be digested at Mount Sinai where they learned about God and sacrificial offerings to be made unto Him. It was here on this mountain that Moses received the Ten Commandments and the instructions for building a Tabernacle...a place of worship that would be carried with them into the wilderness as they traveled. You will see how God lead them on their journey by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. You will learn that the Israelites were not always comfortable on this trek. They complained about the manna which fell upon the grass each morning and composed their diet. God miraculously sent for them quail to eat as they tired of their mundane diet called "Bread from Heaven." There were times the travelers wanted to give up and return to Egypt because of the difficulty of the journey. There were battles to fight along the way, of which many were hard and harsh. The fascinating battle of Jericho Is a part of this study. The Israelites fought their way across Canaan, but were not able to rid the land of all the less than desirable tribes settled there as the Lord wanted them to do. Even so, the lands were divided between the Tribes of Israel, each getting a section to call their own. The Promise Land was finally claimed and divided, and God's favored people were home at last.

This joyous book came out of my love for teaching. It is the product of teaching and lecturing in schools, universities, and prestigious conferences. The trial of the Egyptian Pharaoh was a case of human rights violations. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, his officials, and the Egyptian people forced the Israel people into slavery and treated them with extreme cruelty. They forced the Israelites to do hard labor and they mercilessly oppressed them and heavily exploited them. The Israelites cried to God and God agreed with them. God appeared to Moses in the burning bush and sent him to Pharaoh to tell him to let the Israelites leave Egypt, the land of slavery, and go to Canaan, the promised land flowing with milk and honey. God gave Moses two miraculous signs and wonders to perform before Pharaoh and his officials. God hoped that the two miraculous signs will convince Pharaoh and he will let the Israelite leave Egypt and go to Canaan. In his famous call to Pharaoh, God ordered, "Let my people go." Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh in Egypt and told him everything that God wanted him to do. Let the people go. But the Pharaoh, king of Egypt, refused to let the Israelites go out of Egypt. He refused to let God's people go out of Egypt, the land of slavery. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, adamantly asked Moses, "Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go." Then Moses left Pharaoh alone but God sent him back again. Moses and Aaron threw Moses's staff on the ground in front of Pharaoh and his official. Then Moses's staff turned into a great snake. Pharaoh watched the great snake crawl in front of him. Then Pharaoh summoned his wise men, and his sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians, and ordered them to do what Moses and Aaron did in front of him and his officials. The wise men, the sorcerers, and the great magicians of Egypt threw their staffs in front of Pharaoh and his official, but their staffs turned into small snakes and Moses's great snake swallowed them all. However, those miraculous signs and wonders did not deter or stop Pharaoh from his stubbornness. He refused to let God's people go out of Egypt and God decided to take this case to a higher level. The case of the Israel people, as plaintiffs, vs. Pharaoh, king of Egypt, as the defendant, was indeed a unique case. There has been no case before and since then where God himself presided over the case like he did before Pharaoh and his officials, God was the judge in this case. And God chose Moses and Aaron to prosecute Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and his officials for violating the Israel people's human rights when they forced them into slavery and treated them with extreme cruelty. Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go out of Egypt. He disobeyed God's order to "let my people go." God performed a lot of miracles and wonders throughout this unique case. But Pharaoh refused to obey those miraculous signs and wonders. Then God decided to inflict Pharaoh, his officials, and the Egyptian people with deadly plagues. God sent ten deadly plagues that devastated the whole land of Egypt. God sent (1) the plague of blood, (2) the plague of frogs, (3) the plague of gnats, (4) the plague of flies, (5) the plague on livestock, (6) the plague of boils, (7) the plague of hail, (8) the plague of locusts, (9) the plague of darkness, and (10) the plague on the firstborn. The plague on the firstborn was the last straw for Pharaoh, king of Egypt. There was great crying, wailing, yelling, and mourning in the whole land of Egypt. God sent the angel of death to Egypt and killed all firstborn sons of the Egyptian people, including Pharaoh's firstborn son. Finally, Pharaoh woke and hurriedly summoned Moses and Aaron and said to them, "Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go worship the Lord as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds as you have said and go. And also bless me." So, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. God opened up and divided the Red Sea and the Israelites walked and crossed the Red Sea on dry ground. God was with the Israelites all the way to Canaan, the promised land. He fed them on manna and honey. He gave them the Ten Commandments and he led them across Jordan River into Canaan, the promised land. God helped the Israelites conquer the land of Canaan. Joshua divided the Land of Canaan among the nine and a half tribes of Israel, as commanded by the Lord. The land east of the Jordan River had already been assigned to two and a half tribes of Israel by Moses as commanded by the Lord. The whole land is commonly known as "the land of the twelve tribes of Israel."

Why did God promise Abraham the whole of Egypt in Genesis 15 and only Canaan in Genesis 17? Was Abraham Egyptian? Why do the Ten Commandments and the Book of Deuteronomy not mention circumcision? Why does chapter 34 of the Book of the Exodus rewrite and lengthily comment the Second Commandment of Exodus 20: 5? Why did God order Abraham a mere animal sacrifice in Genesis 15 and circumcision in Genesis 17? Why, in that sacrifice, didn't Abraham cut the birds like the other animals? Was it the same God? Why didn't he order the excision of girls? Why the eighth-day circumcision? Why didn't Moses want to circumcise his son? History and exegesis answer those enigmas. Proving by the Bible that Abraham and Moses were pharaohs, this book enlightens the Torah by the history of the last five pharaohs of the 18th dynasty and of the first two of the Ramesides, and vice versa. Born from a succession of findings spread over more than eleven years, it develops the discoveries of Messod and Roger Sabbah's best seller: Secrets of the Exodus (2000). They back upon the idea that the Hebrews left no trace in Egypt because they were Egyptians like the others. Their great thesis is that the Hebrews were the followers of Akhenaten's monotheist heresy who exiled themselves to colonize Palestine. It stands upon several elements of proof: Biblical data and intercultural comparisons, reinforced by those of Le Fabuleux héritage de l'Égypte (Desroches Noblecourt, 2004). The famous Egyptologist adopted the same historiographical approach of intercultural comparisons and demonstrated, like them, that the Egyptians invented the alphabet, Hebraic as everyone knows. A little later (2005), Davidovits brought an irrefragable proof of the Egyptian origin of the Hebrews: hieroglyphs of a fresco discovered in the temple of Amenhotep son of Hapu in Karnak are identical to verse 41: 42 of Genesis. The Sabbah's second great thesis is that centuries after the first writing of the Torah, in order to obtain their release from the jails of Babylon, the Jews rewrote it carefully clouding their belonging to Egypt, an enemy of the Assyrians, and noting the myth of their Cananean origin down in it. We strengthen that background by several findings. Römer (Collège de France) saluted the first one: the Second Commandment prohibits and represses sexual mutilation. It makes the Sinai Alliance a revolution by comparison with the moralizing puritanism imposed upon Abraham and Hebrew baby boys. Those concerning the circumcisions of Moses' son and Abraham followed that spark. Then came that of the interpretation of the Covenant of Genesis 15, the great Covenant in which, on the one hand, "God" promised Abram not the land of Canaan but all Egypt, on the other hand, Abram-Akhenaten abolished sexual mutilation in Akhetaten. There is every indication that the great reason for the exile of the Hebrews was less their monotheism than that abolition that challenged the great pillar of the patriarchal Egyptian culture: domination of women and youth. Then, it was the discovery of the apocryphal character of Exodus 34, entirely created in order to refute the fact that Exodus 20: 5 forbids and represses sexual mutilation. Finally, Grimal (Collège de France) brought us a piece of crucial information: antique Egyptian has no word for circumcision. Thence the two Biblical periphrases: "the flesh of your outgrowth" and "the crime of fathers". A third biblical periphrasis: "the land of your peregrinations" (Genesis 17: 8) naively admits that Abram was a migrant in Palestine. The origin of Judaism takes a new light. One certainty: Abraham and Moses were pacifists who refused to invade Palestine.
