La 4e de couverture indique : "Ce livre a vocation à définir, dans un premier temps, cent notions fondamentales propres au droit anglais afin de les rendre intelligibles pour un lectorat français en les définissant et en explicitant les précédents jurisprudentiels qui en constituent l’essence. De façon plus inédite, dans un second temps, ces notions sont confrontées au droit français afin de déterminer leurs équivalents notionnels. En outre, cet ouvrage permet de souligner le fait qu’un certain nombre de ces notions anglaises ont d’ores et déjà pénétré la sphère juridique française par l’intermédiaire, notamment, du droit international privé général ou du droit du commerce international voire du droit civil et du droit commercial. C’est, donc, là l’occasion d’une mise en lumière des métamorphoses contemporaines du droit français sous l’influence, en l’occurrence, du droit anglais dont certaines notions sont favorablement accueillies, notamment, par la Cour de cassation. On constate, en effet, une accélération de la pénétration en droit français de certaines notions issues des systèmes de Common law au cours des dernières années telles que l’« Act of God », le « Contempt of court », les « Punitive damages », le « Consequential loss », le « Mitigation of damages », l’« Estoppel », etc. Ainsi la publication d'un tel livre répond-elle à un réel besoin des milieux tant universitaires (étudiants, doctorants, enseignants-chercheurs) que professionnels (avocats, notaires, juristes d'entreprises, voire magistrats, traducteurs juridiques - ou non - linguistes voire jurilinguistes) confrontés de plus en plus souvent, notamment dans la pratique des affaires, à des notions issues du système de Common law dont le droit anglais constitue le berceau nourricier. On précisera, également, que cet ouvrage traite non seulement de 100 notions fondamentales de base mais aussi d’innombrables notions sous-jacentes dont l’importance est capitale afin de comprendre les rouages essentiels du droit anglais. Ce livre constitue, donc, à ce titre un guide fiable et efficace quant à la rédaction de contrats internationaux en ce que ceux-ci font, en règle générale, essentiellement référence à des notions et concepts d’obédience anglo-américaine. Sur ce terrain précis, l’évocation quasisystématique des solutions retenues en droit américain à l’occasion d’un très grand nombre de notices composant l’ouvrage s’avère ainsi des plus pertinentes. Partant, ce livre apparaît comme indispensable à qui souhaiterait mieux connaître le droit anglais ou, plutôt, les « mots » qui le composent..."
