Bringing together leading researchers, this book comprehensively covers what is known about the amygdala, with a unique focus on what happens when this key brain region is damaged or missing. Offering a truly comparative approach, the volume presents research on rats, monkeys, and humans. It reports on compelling cases of people living without an amygdala, whether due to genetic conditions, disease, or other causes. The consequences for an individual's ability to detect danger and regulate emotions--and for broader cognitive and social functions--are explored, as are lessons learned about brain pathways and plasticity. The volume delves into the role of the amygdala in psychiatric disorders and identifies important directions for future research. Illustrations include six color plates.

Living Without A Goal written by James A. Ogilvy and has been published by Broadway Business this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Business & Economics categories.

"We've mastered the art of living with goals and what has it gotten us? More commitments, more obligations - and much less time to be playful, loving and alive. What if we could let go of our goals - and our belief that without them we are nothing - and open ourselves to even more productive and fulfilling experiences?" "The process of doing this is what James Ogilvy describes. One of a rare breed of full-time philosophers working in business, Ogilvy shows how the need for Authority runs so deep that we are often unaware of its existence. This internal taskmaster determines goals for us - even against our deepest wishes." "Ogilvy shows how to navigate the fertile and frightening territory between mindless obedience and abject aimlessness. He explores how lovers, ideologues, executives and philosophers, from Plato to Nietzsche, have at one time or another lived brilliantly without goals. Goallessness is a new method of achieving personal creativity and freedom by fashioning one's day-to-day life not as a goal in a larger goal-producing machine, but as a personal work of art."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Living Without Silver written by John S. Deyell and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-08-15 with India categories.

This book is concerned with money as an indicator of economic activity. It makes a comprehensive examination of the use of money from Afghanistan to Bihar, and from Kashmir to Malwa, during the period AD 750-1250. Its major premise is that the patterns of production, exchange, and dispersion of money over time can be used to define the economic systems of early medieval North India. This book explains and interprets the economic history of the period, using current models of feudalization, decentralization, trade, and commerce. The author rejects the common perception that money during this period was scarce, primitive, and debased, by analysing the evidence of surviving coin hoards. His findings suggest a considerably greater reliance on money, closer co-ordination of its use, and its wider circulation in larger quantities, than is consistent with many current models of the early medieval Indian economy.
