“Lobo, Rag, and Vixen and Pictures” is a 1899 collection of short animals stories by Ernest Seton. The four stories concern the adventures of four different animals: Lobo, a wolf; a partridge called Redruff; Raggylug, a Rabbit, and Vixen the fox. Ernest Thompson Seton (1860 – 1946) was an English author and wildlife artist who founded the Woodcraft Indians in 1902. He was also among the founding members of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), established in 1910. He wrote profusely on this subject, the most notable of his scouting literature including “The Birch Bark Roll” and the “Boy Scout Handbook”. Seton was also an early pioneer of animal fiction writing, and he is fondly remembered for his charming book “Wild Animals I Have Known” (1898). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. El Lobo, a recently released ex-con, returns to the barrio and the Westside Eleventh Avenue gang. With instructions from the incarcerated el grandes, El Lobo is to build up the gang by controlling the drug and human smuggling trade in Phoenix. El Lobo starts by instilling fear in the residents by making them pay a new use tax for driving on one of the barrio's city streets. Barrio resident Mrs. Tino suffers the consequences for unknowingly not paying the tax. It is not until John Thompson, a city resident from outside the barrio, makes a wrong turn down North Eleventh Avenue and gets robbed that police are made aware of this use tax being charged by the Westside Eleventh Avenue Street gang. The Police Department's Special Patrol Investigative Squad, the Community Action Team (CAT), led by Sergeant McGuire and Senior Officers Kincade and Boland, are called in to investigate. The investigation quickly uncovers the gang's involvement in the dangerous world of the drug and smuggling trade. Follow as the CAT squad works with residents, other city departments, and state and federal agencies as their investigations goes outside Phoenix to other major cities, including Chicago and Miami. The investigation accumulates in a large search warrant operation, taking down a number of locations at the same time, resulting in the arrest of many of the outstanding gang members. However, the day of the warrants, is unable to produce El Lobo. Several days after the takedown, El lobo's reign of terror ends on the streets of Phoenix during a traffic stop.

Jerónimo Lobo was the last survivor of the small band of Jesuit Fathers who tried, with a measure of success, to reconcile Ethiopia to the Church of Rome. The narrative begins with Lobo’s ordination in 1621 and ends seventeen years later. Chosen to serve in India he reached that country after being involved with a naval fight against the Dutch and English off Mozambique. Selected for the Ethiopian mission, he made a remarkable attempt to reach the country from the Somali coast, and eventually made his way to Bailul in the Red Sea and across the Danakil desert. He spent nine years in Ethiopia, principally in the north and in the neighbourhood of the source of the Blue Nile. Exiled when the Emperor restored the authority of the Ethiopian Church, he was handed over to the Turks at Massawa. After suffering much hardship and danger he regained India. Sent to Europe to advocate intervention on behalf of the Ethiopian Catholics, his ship was wrecked on the South African coast. The castaways built two boats, one of which succeeded in rounding the Cape and arriving at Luanda. Here Lobo embarked on a ship carrying slaves to the Spanish main which was captured by the Dutch. Lobo was marooned on an island but contrived to make his way to Cartagena and Havana and so to Europe. His diplomatic business took him to Madrid and Rome, but his plea for armed assistance for the Ethiopian Catholics did not succeed. Translated by Donald M. Lockhart.
