Asombra, que después de más de doscientos años de estudios mayas, una cultura tan vasta, talentosa y reconocida intelectual y artísticamente, no se hayan considerado necesarias hasta hoy investigaciones filosóficas y estéticas. En la actualidad los estudios mayistas son parciales. El énfasis se ha puesto sobre lo histórico, signa) y mitológico. Los documentos para desarrollar esas investigaciones son en gran mayoría obras plásticas de casi todos los Géneros. Sin embargo, la atención que se le dispensa a las arquitectural, esculturas, ceramios y dibujos está relacionada con "cuanta historia, sistema socioeconómico y mitología puedan revelar". Estoy de acuerdo con tal criterio pero no que sean los únicos temas de investigación como lo demuestra la bibliografía existente. Insisto, la mayoría de las obras descubiertas son obras artísticas o artesanales y pertenecen a lo estético y a la expresión plástica. Sobre esta base, el enfoque científico poco puede hacer. Sin embargo, se han realizado paupérrimos análisis iconográficos donde, de manera esquématica y superficial, se han "diseccionado" las Morfologías. Como es de esperar, en este tipo de "análisis" carente de una casuística de lo estéticoplástico, la conceptualización, la terminología y la disciplina investigativa son falaces. Se necesita una urgente interdisciplinaridad entre lo histórico, antropológico, filosófico y estético.
