Midlife Journeys written by Richard P. Olson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Family & Relationships categories.

With common sense and good humor, Richard Olsen examines both the "outer journeys" and the "inner journeys", making clear throughout that the middle third of peoples' lives--the thirties, forties and fifties--is not the time to bemoan the past but rather to celebrate all that is around us. Olsen points out how readers can use the maturity of midlife to strengthen their personal relationships, maintain and increase their health, and reevaluate their vocational and career goals.

Through the practice of personal pilgrimage she developed, the author offers readers a tool to explore, contemplate, and reflect upon key midlife issues -- careers, relationships, sexuality, finances, spirituality, body image, mortality, and more. It encourages readers to take the time-out needed when midlife challenges crowd their busy calendars and psyches. Drawing on the insights of people from Plato to Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Hurst introduces each of these concerns with a mini-essay, then asks 10 questions for reflection. Part 2 outlines 12 pilgrimages users can take to work on these issues, for example Abundance point (finances), Artists Cove (relationships), and Career Paths (Career).

If you think your forties were challenging—wait until you’re fifty. Just don’t wait until you’re fifty to read this book. It’s easier to handle this momentous change of life if you’re armed with good information, a sense of humor and, perhaps, a stiff drink. Fifty doesn’t happen overnight—the journey into midlife takes years and it’s different for everybody, female and male. Some start earlier, some start later, but in the end, it’s all the same: By the time you’re fifty adjustments are called for. This book is about helping women (and men, to some extent) navigate the changes that midlife brings. It gives credence, validity and voice to real concerns about entering middle age and practical advice on preserving and/or improving minds, bodies, desirability, confidence and creativity going forward. The book covers a broad range of topics from the perspective of midlife veterans, members of a silent majority of women that have a lot more to talk about than hot flashes and other physical manifestations of middle age. It is characterized by straightforward, conversational language, humorous anecdotes, helpful suggestions and an unwavering focus on reality, no matter how controversial or unorthodox. Women are hungry to hear about other women’s experiences in this area—and men are anxious to learn how to relate to the changing women in their lives as they are going through their own changes. They are all looking for relief—comic and otherwise. “Wait Until You’re Fifty” focuses less on menopause and more on the perspective changes, little murders and unexpected awakenings that midlife precipitates, such as: the permanently empty nest (farewell to fertility), midlife love (a whole other affair), and re-prioritizing friendship (who will be there for the back fifty?). MINDY LITTMAN HOLLAND wrote this book based on personal experience and interviews with dozens of women and men who had something to say about the joys and adversities of midlife. In addition to writing non-fiction, she writes long and short fiction. She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This book breathes hope. It shows what one can do if you have the courage to stretch beyond an imagined and even already-traveled blueprint. The book gives permission to reach out for somethingness instead of dead-holding on nothingness. It teaches that real lasting changes start with-in and impact with-out versus the other way around. By reminding us about the roots of a word "courage"

I was shocked when the husbands of two close friends had major heart attacks in their mid-thirties and died within two weeks of one another. Over the next decade, I saw more good friends go through an alarming number of divorces, spousal deaths, financial problems and job disasters, failing health and other derailments, including my own. Could anyone do anything to stem this tide? Probably not, but the idea of putting some of our stories into print came to mind. Perhaps others following in our footsteps could be forewarned about life coming to us on its own terms earlier than expected. After some discussion, five friends agreed to share their personal stories provided that anonymity be respected. I included my own experience and that of one friend written about posthumously. Even though the seven of us are women, I realize that challenges and difficulties are never gender specific, so in the Conclusion, I added one story about a man who lost his young daughter, and how he dealt with that. In "Journeys and Getaways: Women in Midlife Find Paths to Stability," readers will see that we are not famous, but our stories are real. We offer our messages so that they might facilitate the passages of others going through distressing times. I hope that readers will find some light within these pages.
