Life throws us many challenges, and some give rise to strong emotions. Modern neuroscience research shows that many patients who visit primary care doctors are experiencing physical symptoms that have a purely psychological cause. The good news is that once we realize that negative habitual thoughts have the power to make us sick, we can focus on eliminating physical symptoms simply by transforming our thought processes. Mike Tangunu Lanjo, a clinician and passionate public servant who frequently provides holistic care for clients, shares practical insight that offers a different perspective on how the human mind can cause physical illnesses that present symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, back and chest pain, digestive issues, and rashes, and often leave medical professionals frustrated and unable to provide a solid diagnosis. Through his guidance, Lanjo encourages us to identify and address the root causes of diseases by viewing the body as one integrated system instead of a collection of independent organs. We can then shift our attention from the physical to the psychological realm, ultimately allowing for whole-body healing, not just the suppression of symptoms, in most psychosomatic cases. Mind Sneezes, Body Catches a Cold is a holistic guide to achieving optimal health through thought process transformation.

Common Cold written by Ronald Eccles and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-16 with Medical categories.

The common cold is unlike any other human disease because of two f- tors: firstly, it is arguably the most common human disease and, secondly, it is one of the most complex diseases because of the number of viruses that cause the familiar syndrome of sneezing, sore throat, runny nose and nasal congestion. These two factors have made a ‘cure’ for the common cold one of the most difficult scientific and clinical endeavours (a topic often d- cussed in the popular media, where comparisons are made with the ease of putting a man on the moon). The present book brings together a wide range of experts from epidemiologists to virologists and pharmacologists to look at recent advances in our knowledge of the common cold. In some respects the book is unique, as it focuses on the common cold, a syndrome so familiar to the layperson but one that receives little attention from the scientist and clinician. The common cold can be viewed from many different aspects as illustrated in Figure 1. The core knowledge for understanding the common cold must first come from virology and this is discussed in several chapters of the book. There have been major advances in this field because of the use of new methods of detecting viruses such as polymerase chain reaction techniques that have greatly aided our understanding of the epidemiology of viruses associated with common cold.

Indigenous Bodies Maya Minds written by C. James MacKenzie and has been published by University Press of Colorado this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-07 with Social Science categories.

Indigenous Bodies, Maya Minds examines tension and conflict over ethnic and religious identity in the K’iche’ Maya community of San Andrés Xecul in the Guatemalan Highlands and considers how religious and ethnic attachments are sustained and transformed through the transnational experiences of locals who have migrated to the United States. Author C. James MacKenzie explores the relationship among four coexisting religious communities within Highland Maya villages in contemporary Guatemala—costumbre, traditionalist religion with a shamanic substrate; “Enthusiastic Christianity,” versions of Charismaticism and Pentecostalism; an “inculturated” and Mayanized version of Catholicism; and a purified and antisyncretic Maya Spirituality—with attention to the modern and nonmodern worldviews that sustain them. He introduces a sophisticated set of theories to interpret both traditional religion and its relationship to other contemporary religious options, analyzing the relation among these various worldviews in terms of the indigenization of modernity and the various ways modernity can be apprehended as an intellectual project or an embodied experience. Indigenous Bodies, Maya Minds investigates the way an increasingly plural religious landscape intersects with ethnic and other identities. It will be of interest to Mesoamerican and Mayan ethnographers, as well as students and scholars of cultural anthropology, indigenous cultures, globalization, and religion.
