Name That Emotion brings you a free ebook by psychotherapist and Columbia University professor Dr. Erin Olivo to help you learn how to identify and accurately label your emotions. The good news is that all emotions can basically be divided into eight core categories: fear, anger, sadness, shame, disgust, jealousy, happiness, and love. Drawing from her recent book Wise Mind Living, Dr. Olivo takes you step by step through the phases of what she calls “the cycle of emotions,” including prompting events, interpretations, actions, and aftereffects. You’ll learn how you can begin to intervene and change the nature of your emotional life to alleviate stress and suffering, how to practice acceptance of what you can’t change, and how to live with the greater sense of peace and control that comes from building moment-to-moment mindful awareness.

The final approach attempts to account for a range of events associated with emotion, from functional and behavioural features to aspects related to the dynamics and the development of feeling. The book provides a theoretical foundation for engineering and designing computational emotion as a framework for developing future adaptive systems. It includes a painstaking analysis of the rationales for the features of the final approach, including aspects from the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Psychology, the Cognitive Sciences and Model-based Systems. Synthesizing knowledge from a variety of disciplines, it ultimately presents a model conceptualization following the perspectives of Engineering and the Cognitive Sciences.

"I believe that the discoveries in this book can change our understanding of how we store emotional experiences and in so doing, change our lives. The Emotion Code has already changed many lives around the world, and it is my hope that millions more will be led to use this simple tool to heal themselves and their loved ones."—Tony Robbins In this newly revised and expanded edition of The Emotion Code, renowned holistic physician and lecturer Dr. Bradley Nelson skillfully lays bare the inner workings of the subconscious mind. He reveals how emotionally-charged events from your past can still be haunting you in the form of "trapped emotions"—emotional energies that literally inhabit your body. These trapped emotions can fester in your life and body, creating pain, malfunction, and eventual disease. They can also extract a heavy mental and emotional toll on you, impacting how you think, the choices that you make, and the level of success and abundance you are able to achieve. Perhaps most damaging of all, trapped emotional energies can gather around your heart, cutting off your ability to give and receive love. The Emotion Code is a powerful and simple way to rid yourself of this unseen baggage. Dr. Nelson’s method gives you the tools to identify and release the trapped emotions in your life, eliminating your “emotional baggage,” and opening your heart and body to the positive energies of the world. Filled with real-world examples from many years of clinical practice, The Emotion Code is a distinct and authoritative work that has become a classic on self-healing.

This text presents a methodical, organized approach to counseling students in emotional intelligence (EI) by detailing how to understand and direct emotions, while also keying counselors directly to the underlying emotional motivations behind the behaviors. Divided into four units, the book starts with an overview of emotions and continues to explore the nature of anger, fear, grief, and guilt. Chapters present both explanatory narratives and teen-centered activities to show how these challenging, uncomfortable feelings when unregulated may negate resiliency and lead to anxiety, bullying, depression, and teen suicide. Counselors and educators alike will benefit from the light, unexacting tone that encourages humor and levity and discusses how to handle difficult emotions without harsh and heavy overtones.

Appraisal Processes In Emotion written by Klaus R. Scherer and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-05-03 with Psychology categories.

The scientific study of emotion has long been dominated by theories emphasizing the subjective experience of emotions and their accompanying expressive and physiological responses. The processes by which different emotions are elicited has received less attention, the implicit assumption being that certain emotions arise automatically in response to certain types of events or situations. Such an assumption is incompatible with data showing that similar situations can provoke a range of emotions in different individuals, or even the same individual at different times. Appraisal theory, first suggested by Magda Arnold and Richard Lazarus, was formulated to address this shortcoming in our understanding of emotion. The central tenet of appraisal theory is that emotions are elicited according to an individual's subjective interpretation or evaluation of important events or situations. Appraisal research focuses on identifying the evaluative dimensions or criteria that predict which emotion will be elicited in an individual, as well as linking the appraisal process with the production of emotional responses. This book represents the first full-scale summary of the current state of appraisal research. Separate sections cover the history of apraisal theory and its fundamental ideas, the views of some of the major theorists currently active in the field, theoretical and methodological problems with the appraisal approach including suggestions for their resolution, social, cultural and individual differences and the application of appraisal theory to understanding and treating emotional pathology, and the methodology used in appraisal research including measuring and analyzing self-report, physiological, facial, and vocal indicators of appraisal, and simulating appraisal processes via computational models. Intended for advanced students and researchers in emotion psychology, it provides an authoritative assessment and critique of the current state of the art in appraisal research.
