It is written as a challenge to all surgeons applying these principles to approach the biliary system with the safest and most appropriate technical support. This book is also written as a challenge to all those involved in the training of future generations of surgeons in the hope that critical standards in biliary surgical management will be promulgated and highlighted. The text contains knowledge from surgical leaders who played a vital part in the modern management of biliary stone disease. These contributions include their perceptions, wisdom and recommendations for the future. In doing so, the authors aim to discover ways to make the surgical management of biliary stone disease even better. This volume, thoughtfully curated by two eminent surgical scholars, provides perhaps the most complete history of the field. Dr. Berci and Dr. Greene enlisted a remarkable panel of distinguished colleagues from around the world to discuss every important element of surgical practice. This book is designed to introduce the reader to many of the major narratives of the Bible, beginning with Abraham and other patriarchs, Israel’s Judges and Prophets, Jesus Christ, Paul, and John’s Seven Churches in Revelation. It is not a theological text, but mostly the Turkington’s travel logs from 1991–2004 when they had the opportunity to visit almost all known Bible sites. Often their experiences were funny, exciting, frustrating, sometimes daring, and on occasion a little dangerous. Together, with their two children, they drove through fields, along tracks, through fruit groves and shallow rivers, and into some quite intimidating areas. They were pummeled by stones several times, robbed three times, stopped by police or army five times, and had many exciting border crossings (including one where they were within seconds of being shot by Israeli border guards,) and they had one car accident—this all to experience these Bible lands.

Echoes of a Prophet examines intertextual connections to Ezekiel found in John and in Second Temple literature. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain many allusions to a number of Ezekiel's oracles, while other Second Temple works refer to only a few of Ezekiel's oracles, and those only rarely. In each case, Manning examines the evidence for the presence of the allusions, studies the implied interpretational methods, and comments on the function of the allusion in advancing the author's ideas. He also analyzes John's allusions to Ezekiel: the good shepherd, the vine, the opened heavens, imagery from the "dry bones" vision, and water symbolism. He observes that John has a few unique tendencies: he alludes to all five of Ezekiel's "oracles of hope" and primarily uses that imagery to describe the giving of the Holy Spirit and new life through Jesus.

p.B. J. Whiting savors proverbial expressions and has devoted much of his lifetime to studying and collecting them; no one knows more about British and American proverbs than he. The present volume, based upon writings in British North America from the earliest settlements to approximately 1820, complements his and Archer Taylor's Dictionary of American Proverbs and Proverbial Phrases, 1820-1880. It differs from that work and from other standard collections, however, in that its sources are primarily not "literary" but instead workaday writings - letters, diaries, histories, travel books, political pamphlets, and the like. The authors represent a wide cross-section of the populace, from scholars and statesmen to farmers, shopkeepers, sailors, and hunters. Mr. Whiting has combed all the obvious sources and hundreds of out-of-the-way publications of local journals and historical societies. This body of material, "because it covers territory that has not been extracted and compiled in a scholarly way before, can justly be said to be the most valuable of all those that Whiting has brought together," according to Albert B. Friedman. "What makes the work important is Whiting's authority: a proverb or proverbial phrase is what BJW thinks is a proverb or proverbial phrase. There is no objective operative definition of any value, no divining rod; his tact, 'feel, ' experience, determine what's the real thing and what is spurious."
