Not In The Heavens written by David Biale and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-27 with Social Science categories.

Not in the Heavens traces the rise of Jewish secularism through the visionary writers and thinkers who led its development. Spanning the rich history of Judaism from the Bible to today, David Biale shows how the secular tradition these visionaries created is a uniquely Jewish one, and how the emergence of Jewish secularism was not merely a response to modernity but arose from forces long at play within Judaism itself. Biale explores how ancient Hebrew books like Job, Song of Songs, and Esther downplay or even exclude God altogether, and how Spinoza, inspired by medieval Jewish philosophy, recast the biblical God in the role of nature and stripped the Torah of its revelatory status to instead read scripture as a historical and cultural text. Biale examines the influential Jewish thinkers who followed in Spinoza's secularizing footsteps, such as Salomon Maimon, Heinrich Heine, Sigmund Freud, and Albert Einstein. He tells the stories of those who also took their cues from medieval Jewish mysticism in their revolts against tradition, including Hayim Nahman Bialik, Gershom Scholem, and Franz Kafka. And he looks at Zionists like David Ben-Gurion and other secular political thinkers who recast Israel and the Bible in modern terms of race, nationalism, and the state. Not in the Heavens demonstrates how these many Jewish paths to secularism were dependent, in complex and paradoxical ways, on the very religious traditions they were rejecting, and examines the legacy and meaning of Jewish secularism today.

Growing out of a conference entitled Literary Theory volume reveal, among other more particularistic points, a fundamental overt disagreement regarding the question of coherence in narrative point of view, i.e. between the assumption or discovery of coherent and unitary narratives and narrators, the critique of this assumption, and the assumption or discovery of its opposite. Why Did The Heavens Not Darken written by Arno J. Mayer and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-21 with History categories.

Was the extermination of the Jews part of the Nazi plan from the very start? Arno Mayer offers astartling and compelling answer to this question, which is much debated among historians today. In doing so, he provides one of the most thorough and convincing explanations of how the genocidecame about in Why Did the Heavens Not Darken?, which provoked widespread interest and controversywhen first published. Mayer demonstrates that, while the Nazis’ anti-Semitism was always virulent, it did not becomegenocidal until well into the Second World War, when the failure of their massive, all-or-nothingcampaign against Russia triggered the Final Solution. He details the steps leading up to thisenormity, showing how the institutional and ideological frameworks that made it possible evolved, and how both related to the debacle in the Eastern theater. In this way, the Judeocide is placedwithin the larger context of European history, showing how similar ‘holy causes’ in the past havetriggered analogous – if far less cataclysmic – infamies.

Heavens And The Heaven written by Uyiogh'Ogie Clement Omoruyi and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-30 with Religion categories.

Heavens and the Heaven looks at five levels of heaven. These are Life, Heights, Times, Power and God. As far as the scriptures are concerned, the author could find no other heaven. In other word, we do not and cannot go to heaven when we die. In looking at hell, on the other hand, we also find that this is suffering, pains and aches here on earth. Death and the grave is, therefore, the seal of this hell. Some have asked: “why do we believe in Jesus, then?” The answer is in Paul’s Temple cry in the council of Acts.23:6. “... Men and brethren ... of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called ...” So, the struggle continue to be choosing between our will or God’s will; our traditions and belief system, or the word of God as contained in the Bible; our sugar laden air pocket ridden leaven bread or God’s choice of healthy unleavened bread. To introduce this book a little bit more, here is an excerpt from the theme of this work: If all living are in heaven, it may be hard for some to accept that those who are alive but ill and suffering are also in heaven. This explains why too many folks refuse, or find it difficult to accept that the life we enjoy now is all the heaven there is. But the harsh reality is, for as long as this present time remains, life is all the heaven there is! Whether we accept or believe it or not, we LIVE out this heaven of life in Time, in Height, in Power (and privileges) and in God. These all, jointly and severally describes the five levels of the heavens there are. But life makes sense of the others and everything else. That life is in God. His Spirit establishes that life in all living. So, when we talk of Life we, inadvertently, talk of the Deity of the universe. The author’s position in these is this. Let this work help us to pause a moment. Then, reexamine the word of God in these views of our heavens also. We may yet find that we have been with the traditions and belief of men long enough. Our individual and joint finds should help ground us more strongly in whatever level in the Faith and understanding of the word of God we are in, currently. In this effort, we should remember that the greatest of these all is to love God above all, and our neighbor as ourselves. Our neighbors are our family members (immediate and extended members), the Jews or Israel (the Elect of God and our Father’s first born). The third are the folks we meet in our daily interactions.

There are all kinds of ideas about what heaven will be like but many of them just don't fit with what God has said in his Word. Beam and Wilson take a humorous, insightful, and biblical look at heaven and what it will really be like. What's your picture of heaven? Will you be sitting on a cloud strumming a golden harp? Will you be singing in an eternal worship service? Will the gates be pearly and the streets paved with gold? Is the place you picture a place you would really want to spend an eternity? Does your answer disturb you? This book paints a refreshing picture of heaven from Scripture. In the process the authors answer the questions that you may not have had the courage to ask and put aside many of the myths you might have thought were true.

Two Gods In Heaven written by Peter Schäfer and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-03 with History categories.

"In this book Peter Schäfer casts light on the common assumption that Judaism from its earliest formulations was strictly monotheistic. Over and over again in the Hebrew Bible the biblical writers insist upon the idea that there is one and only one God. But the biblical text is multifarious and contains many sources that subvert from within the strong monotheistic thesis. Old Canaanite deities such as Baal and El, although pushed to the edges, prove stubbornly persistent. They come to the forefront in, for example, the famous "Son of Man" of chapter 7 of the Book of Daniel. In sum, Schäfer argues that monotheism was an ideal in ancient Judaism that was consistently aspired to, but never fully achieved. Through close textual analysis of the Bible and certain key post-biblical sources, Schäfer tracks the long history of a second, younger, subordinate God next to the senior Jewish God YHWH. One might expect that with early Christianity's embrace of this idea (in the form of Jesus Christ), Judaism would have abandoned it utterly. But the opposite was the case. Even after Christianity usurps the original Jewish notion of a second, younger God, certain post-biblical Jewish circles-in particular early Jewish mystical circles-maintained and revived it with the archangel "Metatron," a controversial figure whose very existence is questioned and fiercely debated by the rabbis of the Babylonian Talmud. This book was originally published in Germany by C.H. Beck Verlag in 2016"--
