"Nacido a comienzos del siglo II en Flavia, Neápolis, colonia romana fundada por Vespasiano en el año 72 d. C. en el lugar de la bíblica Siquem, Justino se consagró a la filosofía, que califica como "el mayor de los bienes", y estudió con los estoicos, aristotélicos, pitagóricos y platónicos. Convertido al cristianismo por el testimonio de un anciano, puso todos sus conocimientos filosóficos al servicio de la fe, abriendo en Roma la primera escuela de filosofía cristiana que se conoce, dedicada a exponer la verdad evangélica según las Escrituras y conforme al testimonio de la razón, instruyendo a numerosos alumnos y participando en debates públicos. Denunciado por el filósofo cínico Crescente, a quien había derrotado repetidamente en debates públicos, fue conducido ante el prefecto de Roma Junio Rústico y, al declararse abiertamente cristiano, condenado a muerte y ejecutado junto con varios de sus discípulos. Las Actas del Martirio de Justino, que se conservan redactadas en griego, lengua en la que se celebró el juicio, constituyen uno de los más valiosos documentos de la Iglesia Primitiva.
