Constitutioneel eczeem is een jeukende, erfelijke huidziekte, die meestal een chronisch beloop heeft. Perioden van verbetering en van verergering van het eczeem wisselen elkaar af. De aandoening ontstaat in verreweg de meeste gevallen voor het vijfde levensjaar. Constitutioneel eczeem komt naar schatting bij 10 - 20 % van de kinderen en bij 1 - 3 % van de volwassenen voor.
