Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Nach Geers wird durch die computervermittelte Kommunikation "die gesamte Natur der menschlichen Kommunikation verändert [...]" und Androutsopulos/Ziegler meinen, dass sie "neue Kommunikationspraktiken und Muster des Sprachgebrauchs ermöglicht, die einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf Sprachwandel haben können." Insgesamt kann demnach angenommen werden, dass die CvK der gegenwärtigen Tendenz entsprechend weiter an Bedeutung gewinnen wird. Eine der beliebtesten Formen CvK ist der Chat. Aus dieser Formulierung sollte aber nicht geschlossen werden, dass es "den Chat" als solchen gibt. Runkeh meint hierzu: "Es zeigt sich [...], daß es sehr unterschiedliche Chats gibt und das Pauschalaussagen über das Chatten, wie man sie allzu häufig findet, problematisch sind". Technisch gesehen bestehen drei Chat-Möglichkeiten, die in Kapitel 2 dargestellt werden sollen. In der linguistischen Forschung, besonders in der Konversationsanalyse, sind mittlerweile einige Arbeiten zu finden, die sich aber zumeist nur mit sprachlichen Phänomenen im Chat beschäftigen. Es wird dabei jedoch vernachlässigt, dass der Chat eine Kommunikationstechnologie darstellt, die in zahlreichen verschiedenen Bereichen Anwendung findet. (Siehe 2.1) Die untersuchten Chats liegen zumeist ausschließlich im informellen Bereich und können als „Plauderchats“ bezeichnet werden. In Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird untersucht, wie Kommunikationsteilnehmer unter den medialen bzw. technischen Bedingungen unmoderierter Chats die kommunikative Handlung Dissens bewältigen. Aufgrund des begrenzten Rahmens dieser Arbeit beschränke ich mich auf die Untersuchung unmoderierter Chats, wobei die Ergebnisse zum Teil auch auf moderierte Chats übertragbar sind. Die Frage ist gesprächsanalytisch interessant, da essenzielle Merkmale von nichtkonsensuellen Gesprächsformen, wie sie z.B. durch Gruber erläutert werden, im Chat nicht realisierbar sind. Dazu zählen vor allem Phänomene des Sprecherwechsels, wie Unterbrechungen und Überlappungen, aber auch bestimmte Ausdrucksweisen auf para- und nonverbaler Ebene, durch die emotionale Elemente der Kommunikation, denen in nichtkonsensuellen Gesprächsformen eine besondere Bedeutung zukommt, vermittelt werden können. This volume suggests a novel treatment of context in the analysis of everyday interaction. On a theoretical level, it advocates a switch of focus from 'context' as a preestablished, monolithic category which constringes co-participants' verbal and nonverbal behaviour, to an active notion of 'contextualization' in order to make oneself understood, participants have to establish and maintain those shared contextual frames which in turn are relevant to the local interpretation of their verbal and nonverbal activities. On an empirical level, the volume contains exemplary analyses that show how participants employ 'contextualization cues' of prosodic (rhythm, intonation, tempo, etc.) or nonverbal (gaze, gesture, etc.) nature in order to 'achieve context'.The volume is also an appraisal of the theory of contextualization developed by John Gumperz. In their contributions, researchers from various schools of research, such as conversation analysis, micro-ethnography, phonetics/phonology and metapragmatics, relate their work to this theory.

Karl Bühler (1879–1963) was one of the leading theoreticians of language of the twentieth century. Although primarily a psychologist, Bühler devoted much of his attention to the study of language and language theory. Susan Leigh Star (1954–2010) was one of the most influential science studies scholars of the last several decades.
