Jarvis Langton is an unborn-again Christian living on the fringe. He's not big on life and has tried to finish his own twice. Still, most mornings, he quite likes to sun himself at Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens. One morning he notices something winking at him from a nearby bush. When he investigates he finds the dead body of his friend, Lady; a Thai transvestite. Jarvis is not someone with his thoughts lined up in any reasonable order. It takes him a while to work out Lady must have been murdered. It takes him longer to decide he's going to find her killer - but once he does, the premonition that finding Lady's murderer will bring him his own end, happens in an instant. "Parable of the Forgotten is a first class, no rest-stop, brilliant, whirly gig!" Dr She Mackenzie Hawke, University Of Sydney.

Excerpt from The Parable of the Prodigal Son, or From Heaven to Hell and Return We have tried to show the reader that Heaven is a creation of the God of the universe, or, in other words, the Conscious God, and the world is only a. House divided against itself, and a creation of the uncon scious god in man to awaken the truth within and bring out the consciousness. What the Conscious (lod created is real and endures forever, and cannot be forgotten when once known; but the world of belief, or death, is only another name for unconscious ness. Being dead in the sense of unconsciousness does not mean that you cannot believe that you move and have life, for if you did not believe that the world of belief was real, it) would not accomplish that for which it was created, namely, the awakening of the consciousness of life within, where all knowledge dwells. When we say within we include the whole universe, which has no limitations, for man is in the image and likeness of (lod, and (10d means everything that is: so the world is onlv belief, because it will consume itself and pass away. When we sav belief we mean anything that man created and calls by one name or another, because they are all self con suming if you only will give them time enough therefore, such cannot be knowledge or created by God, for all things that God created are eternal, always were and always will be, without beginning or ending. Excerpt from Notes on the Parables of Our Lord The two fables of the Old Testament, that of the trees which would choose a king (j udg. Ix. 8 and of the thistle and the cedar (2 Kin. Xiv. May seem to impeach the universality of this rule, but do not so in fact. For in neither is it God who speaks, nor yet messengers of his, delivering his counsel; but men, and from an earthly standing-point, not a heavenly. Jotham will teach the men of Shechem their folly, not their sin, in making Abimelech king over them; the fable never lifting itself to the rebuke of sin, as it is sin - this lesson lies outside of its sphere - but only in so far as it is also folly. And Jehoash, in the same way, would make Amaziah see his presumption and pride, in challenging a mightier to the con ict; not thereby teaching him any moral lesson, but Only giving evidence in the fable which he uttered, that his own pride was ofiended by the challenge of the Jewish king. "My soul cannot find rest on any other path." My name is John Goodwill, and, with grandson Frank, this is the story of our cross-country trip to find my daughter, Faith. Forty-five years ago, I ran away from the pain of her mental illness and live with a secret, broken heart. Faith just turned sixty years old, and I wonder absolutely everything about her. As a fun surprise, Frank and I meet curious characters who share raw truths, helping tear down my walls of denial and shame. "This homeless artist is like shattered pieces of glass from a broken goblet" (Just Bob). "She didn't know what was happening to her son. Mom always believed I could learn to live with who I am" (Sea Wind and Gang). "God works in mysterious ways. We are sent a helper, support in most unlikely packages. This one comes with short, frizzy orange hair and a nose ring. What else could I need?" (Josie). "The cure is a shot in the eye? Not for me! Get my pants, Frank, we are out of here" (Grandfather). "We get to a crossroad. We can give our dreams one final push. Then we know deep inside we are finished" (Nurse Hatchett). "Judgment? To some, I look more like a cartoon character than a servant of God, yet I carry the Lord's spirit, just like you" (Chaplain Charlie). Our lives, if you could go back and choose one moment in time to do differently, would you? When the storm is calmed, what is left in your clear reflection upon the still waters now? Seeking My Daughter Faith: Parables from The Forgotten details spiritual adventures of the forgotten among us and stories of God's mercy, forgiveness, and love. When you see an RV going down the road, think of me, reflect on all of us. As long as we breathe, there are chances for do-overs with the ones we love and with ourselves.

Excerpt from Three Sermons on the Parable of the Prodigal Son: Preached in the Cathedral Church of St. George, Kingston, Canada West And before I conclude let me point out to you another application of this great truth no less important at the present time. We have fallen upon days which seem to be heralding the advent of anti-christ. Not only, as I said at first, is the Bible to be interpreted as any other book, but there are those who deny its genuineness and authenticity, who impeach its veracity, and repudiate its inspiration; and together with these we find, as natural allies, a school which would ignore or set aside the Creeds, set little store on distinctive doctrines, and so far from contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints, main tain that it remains for this nineteenth century to discover and elaborate the true faith. Yet these persons are, appar ently many of them, men of piety and most holy life; and all declare with one voice the most thorough allegiance to, and love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. But apply all that we have been saying here, and is it not manifest that from some reason or other, they are in the condition of the prodigal son. They want to be re leased from all restraints, and when they have effected their desire, can we doubt where they will be led; far from God, far from Christ, with whose avowed or masked de niers they have already associated themselves; far from every thing which is good and holy, into the barren and cold region of heartless scepticism. May God grant, my brethren, that none of us, nor any whom we love, may go so fearfully astray. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Prodigal Son: Four Discourses The following Sermons were preached in the ordinary course of my ministry. They make no claim to originality of treatment, but are the result of an attempt to realize as a life-history, the parable of the Prodigal Son. They appeal not so much to reason as to consciousness; and He who has all the hearts of the human in His keeping, has willed that some of them should be touched by these home-pictures and appeals. Many who have listened to them have requested their publication, and new circumstances have risen up around me which render resistance no longer graceful. Hence, on the eve of departure over "many waters," which will yet fail to sever me from the love of my country and of my friends, I leave this modest memorial, with the blessing of a full heart; and with the prayer that the Divine Spirit, who honoured the preaching of these Sermons, may make the printing of them yet more powerful for good.
