Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Excerpt from Readings From the Apocrypha The object of this little book is very simple: it is to familiarize English readers with the treasures contained in the deutero-canonical writings which we call the Apocrypha. The Church of England, it is true, in her lectionary, requires certain passages of these writings to be read in churches; but, as these passages are not read on Sundays, few people know much about them. I have made the Authorized Version the basis of the text here printed; but, in places where it is plainly faulty, I have tried to mend its defects, relying largely on the material supplied by the notes in C. J. Ball's Variorum Apocrypha (an in valuable book), Charles's two sumptuous volumes, Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testa ment and on the help afforded by the Revised Version of the Apocrypha though I have used the last somewhat sparingly. What are they? Where did they come from? Why are they called "apocryphal"? What do they say? How do they say it? An introductory chapter sketches the development of the Old Testament canon and the apocryphal books. The following chapters contain key sections from each of the traditional fourteen books. These quotations are introduced and connected to assure a snapshot of the content and a sample of the style. Most of the apocryphal books were written more than two thousand years ago in the Greek language by and for the Jewish community. They provide valuable insights into Jewish culture, religion, piety, and history during the four hundred years between the Old and New Testaments. Thought questions at the end of each chapter invite reflection on the relevance of the content of these books for today.

For many across the world, the books of the Apocrypha are Christian Scripture. Learn more about them as you learn more about how Jesus thought and lived. Using a thematic approach, Dr. David deSilva gives a brief introduction and summary of these largely unknown and unappreciated books. In addition the book gives an overview to the social and cultural context of the world of the Apocrypha and early Christianity. After surveying the Apocrypha’s relevance and impact on Christian practices and spiritual formation, the book highlights the Apocrypha’s impact on Jesus, the New Testament, and the formation of the Early Church’s doctrines and theology. Core Biblical Studies fulfill the need for brief, substantive, yet highly accessible introductions to key subjects and themes in biblical studies. In the shifting tides of biblical interpretation, these books are designed to help students locate relevant meanings in conversation with the text. As a first step toward substantive and subsequent learning, the series draws on the best scholarship in order to provide foundational concepts and contextualized information on a broad scope of issues, methods, perspectives, and trends.

Lost Books Of The Bible And The Forgotten Books Of Eden written by Rutherford Hayes Platt and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-12 with categories.
2020 Reprint of 1926 Editions. Full facsimile of the original editions and not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This edition includes two titles published into one bound volume. Rutherford Hayes Platt, in the preface to his 1963 reprint of this work, states: "First issued in 1926, this is the most popular collection of apocryphal and pseudepigraphal literature ever published." The translations were first published, under this title, by an unknown editor in The Lost Books of the Bible Cleveland 1926, but the translations had previously been published many times. The book is, essentially, a combined reprint of earlier works. The first half, Lost Books of the Bible, covers the New Testament. The second half of the book, The Forgotten Books of Eden, includes a translation originally published in 1882 of the "First and Second Books of Adam and Eve", translated first from ancient Ethiopic to German and then into English by Solomon Caesar Malan, and a number of items of Old Testament pseudepigrapha, such as reprinted in the second volume of R.H. Charles's Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913).
