El presente estudio Desde la otra orilla. Las mujeres en la Revista de Occidente (1923-1936), aborda el análisis de los textos publicados en la revista durante su primera época, desde la perspectiva de los estudios de género. Para comenzar, tras un breve capítulo introductorio en el que se lleva a cabo una aproximación al papel desempeñado por la Revista de Occidente, se ha procedido a la investigación de los propios textos. En un primer bloque se analizan los discursos de autoría masculina, tanto los ensayísticos como los narrativos, con el fin de determinar qué teorías sobre la diferenciación sexual aparecen, así como las imágenes de mujeres que reproducen los textos de ficción. El estudio parte de la hipótesis de que las teorías sobre la condición femenina que sostuvieron autores como Ortega y Gasset, Gregorio Marañón, Simmel o Ramón Gómez de la Serna, entre otros, contribuyeron de forma determinante al olvido historiográfico al que fueron relegadas la mayor parte de las brillantes mujeres artistas del entorno del Veintisiete. En un segundo bloque nos acercamos a la producción de dichas escritoras, tanto en lo que respecta a su obra ensayística, en la que reflexionaron sobre la condición femenina, como a los textos narrativos, para cuestionarnos si fueron capaces o no de subvertir el discurso masculino que afirmaba la inferioridad de las mujeres o, por el contrario, se adhirieron a las teorías que sostenían la diferenciación sexual.
