En la nueva edición destacan las siguientes novedades: Se han incorporado a lo largo del todo el texto unos cuadros de "Key concepts" separados del texto y fácilmente reconocibles por su fondo de color azul. Están escritos en forma de bullet points recogiendo lo más relevante del contenido que se está describiendo. Un mismo capítulo puede contener hasta 6 ó 7 cuadros "Key Concepts" Se han eliminado a lo largo de todo el libro las referencias bibliográficas y se han sustituido por un bloque de lecturas recomendadas al final de cada capítulo. A pesar de la enorme expansión de la medicina genómica en la que han aparecido múltiples patologías asociadas a las líneas celulares germinales, a lo largo del libro se ha procurado resaltar solamente aquellas que son más comunes y más informativas en términos patogénicos.
